Softball Drops Series Finale to Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. - The rubber match didn't go Embry-Riddle's way, with the Blue and Gold losing 9-0 to Florida Tech in five innings on Friday. That came after a doubleheader split on Thursday.

Not much went the Eagles' way. The leadoff batter for ERAU (21-16, 4-11 Sunshine State Conference), Raissa Bianco, singled through the left side and advanced all the way to third, but she was left stranded on a strikeout. In the bottom of the inning, a solo shot from Florida Tech (21-16, 10-11 SSC) put Embry-Riddle behind 1-0.

Five more hits in the second piled on four more runs for the home team to make it a 5-0 contest.

Leah Oberkehr laid down a bunt for a base hit, but the Eagles were unable to do anything with the opportunity in the third. In the next half inning, a triple and a single increased ERAU's deficit to 6-0.

Lastly, a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth made the score 9-0 and later triggered the run rule.

Bianco and Oberkehr were the only Eagles to record hits in the game. Shelby Morse (L, 8-7) rang up four batters over two innings. Mallory Kinahan and Ava Domenici both spent time inside the circle as relievers.

The Eagles start an eight-game homestand next week when they take on South Carolina Beaufort in a doubleheader on April 3 at 3 p.m.
