Women’s Lacrosse Winning Streak Snapped at No. 12 Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team's seven-game winning streak came to an end in a 17-16 loss to No. 12 Lynn in Sunshine State Conference play on Saturday. The loss puts the eighth-ranked Eagles at 11-2 overall and 2-1 in the league, while Lynn improves to 10-1 and 1-1 in the SSC.

A tightly contested first quarter saw both team struggle to control the ball with Embry-Riddle recording 10 turnovers and Lynn turning the ball over nine times. The low-scoring period saw the Eagles emerge with a 3-2 edge, but the Fighting Knights capitalized on a 10-3 advantage in draw controls to outscore Embry-Riddle 7-5 in the second and take a 9-8 lead at the half.

Callison Foreman won the draw and the Eagles got the ball to Kenley Zeruto who fed Eliana Enners for the first goal of the third quarter to tie the score at 9-9. The momentum swung back in the Fighting Knights' favor as they scored four unanswered over the next four minutes to claim their largest lead of the game (13-9). The Eagles got two goals back, but the Fighting Knights netted two of the last three goals in the closing minutes to lead 15-12 going into the fourth.

Caitlin Gavin scored the first two goals of the fourth, and after Lynn scored its 16th goal of the afternoon, Foreman finished a Gavin pass to make it a one-point game (16-15) with 6:10 left to play. Embry-Riddle converted on 5-of-7 free-position shots and it was a free-position goal from Samantha Reich that evened the score a 16-16 with 2:44 remaining.

Lynn answered just 10 seconds later as Becca Clark won the draw and took the ball to the cage herself to put the home back up by one (17-16). After Lynn won the draw again, the Eagles had an opportunity to make something happen again courtesy of Gavin's caused turnover. The Eagles had a successful clear, but turned the ball over before having a chance at the goal, allowing Lynn to escape with the win.

Zeruto finished with seven points on five goals and two assists, while Enners and Gavin each had a hattrick.

After being on the road for the last three games, the Eagles will be back at home for another tough test on Wednesday, hosting No. 7 Florida Southern at 7 p.m.
