No. 11 Men’s Tennis Blanks Eckerd 7-0

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The 11th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team earned its fifth shutout of the season with a 7-0 win over Eckerd (7-11, 0-7 SSC) in Sunshine State Conference action on Saturday. The Eagles swept through doubles and earned straight-set victories in all six single matches to improve to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in the league.
 
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo and Safar Rasulov teamed up to give the Eagles their first doubles win as they topped Eric Asakura and Phil Grueninger 6-3 on court three. No. 23 Michele Iftimie and Joshua Nuyts' 7-5 win over Christian Kearns and Batu Ataseven assured the Eagles of the doubles point, and 32nd-ranked Fernando Alonso and Caelan Potts downed Mario Kirkov and Marshall Hulett by the same score to complete the doubles sweep.
 
The first singles point went to Alonso whose 6-2, 6-2 win over Kearns at No. 3 put the Eagles up 2-0. No. 32 Rasulov followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Ataseven on court one, and No. 54 Nuyts bested Kirkov 6-4, 7-5 at the second spot to score the clinching point.
 
Playing at the fourth spot for the first time this season, Diaz Rodrigo surrendered just four games in his 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Hulett. Potts dispatched Asakura 6-1, 6-3, and Luke Paschal got his third dual match win of the year, downing Grueninger 7-5, 6-0 to secure the shutout.
 
The Eagles wrap up the regular season at home on Thursday with a non-conference match against Southeastern at 3:30 p.m.
