SAINT LEO, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Women's Lacrosse's 2024 campaign came to an end on Saturday as the 15th-ranked Eagles fell to No. 15 Saint Leo (12-5) 15-9 in the quarterfinal round of the Sunshine State Conference tournament.
Although the Eagles won the draw 5-1 to start, the game was close through the first 15 minutes. The Lions struck first, but
Callison Foreman answered with back-to-back goals to put the Eagles ahead 2-1. The lead was short-lived as Saint Leo scored twice in the last five minutes to go up 3-2 at the end of the first period.
The second quarter belonged to the Lions who managed to hold the Eagles scoreless while outscoring ERAU 4-0 on the way to a 7-2 lead at the half.
The Eagles put together a four-goal third winning the quarter 4-3. Once again, the Lions recorded the first goal of the frame, but the next two scores came from the sticks of
Samantha Reich and
Eliana Enners to close the gap to four (8-4). The Lions added two more to their tally, but the Eagles, who owned a 6-2 advantage in draw controls in the frame, scored the last two goals of the quarter to keep the margin at four (10-6).
Embry-Riddle was plagued by fouls in the fourth quarter resulting in five minutes' worth of extra-woman opportunities for the Lions. Reich, Enners and Foreman each netted a goal in the fourth, but Saint Leo scored five goals to the Eagles' three to close out the win.
Foreman and Enners finished with three goals each, while Reich added two scores. Enners (5) and
Allison Cimaglia (6) combined for 11 of the Eagles' 15 draws, while
Aubrey Fixen tallied six ground balls and 12 saves.
The loss ends Embry-Riddle's fifth season of competition at 12-6 overall. The Eagles were ranked as high as eighth in NCAA II in 2024.
