Moran Deals Second Consecutive Complete Game, Eagles Soar to 7-1 Win over FSC

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – For the second consecutive outing, Eagle hurler Dillon Moran fired a complete game in a win at Sliwa Stadium, this time vaulting Embry-Riddle baseball team to a series-opening win over Florida Southern, 7-1. Moran tied a career-best with 11 strikeouts, walking no batters and yielding just four hits to pick up his sixth win of the year.

In his last two outings, Moran has tossed 18.0IP, 9H, 2ER, 0BB, 19K in a dominant 2-0 stretch.

It was all Moran on the hill, but at the plate, the Eagles packed a punch as well, tallying seven runs on 11 hits against Florida Southern. The top of the lineup, in fact the first four batters on the card, all registered multi-hit performances, including Camden Traficante's 2-for-5 night with two runs scored and an RBI triple. The triple was the Eagles' 20th of the season, a top-5 mark in all NCAA II. Alex Britton, Chase Bruno, Tyler Castelli and Matthew Coker all also registered a pair of base knocks. Jeremy Kennedy-Davis finished 1-for-3, including a towering solo homer to left that hit off the scoreboard in the fourth inning, his second of the year.

Moran quickly worked through the Mocs' lineup, retiring the first nine batters in a row, including four punch outs early. In the midst of that stretch, the Eagles took a lead in the bottom of the first, thanks to Traficante's triple. Britton led the game off for the Eagles with a base hit up the middle on the first pitch, then after stealing second, came home on Traficante's three-bagger. Castelli then poked a shot to left center to make it 2-0.

The Eagles added two more in the bottom of the third; Bruno led things off with a single to left center, then Traficante beat out an infield hit to first base to put two aboard. Castelli walked, loading the bases for AJ Marinello, who hit into a fielder's choice, but scored Bruno in the process. Dillon Lifrieir then sent a deep ball to center to plate Traficante to make it 4-0.

The top of the fourth ended the perfect game for Moran, as FSC tallied a run on two hits and a hit battsman, but a strikeout ended any further threat. Kennedy-Davis got the run back in the bottom of the inning, however, homering deep to left off the scoreboard to make it 5-1 in style.

Moran then got the side to go in order in the top of the fifth, and ERAU added two more runs in the home half. Castelli led off the inning with a single, then a HBP from Marinello put two on for Lifrieiri. The Eagle left fielder walked to load the bases, and Coker hit into a fielder's choice, making it 6-1. Kennedy-Davis then sent another Eagle sac fly to center, plating Marinello to make it 7-1 after five.

Kennedy-Davis then showed out behind the plate, sniping another runner stealing to end the top of the sixth. From there, the Eagles needed no other offense as Moran continued to remain dialed in. He recorded three strikeouts over the final four innings to reach his career high in punchouts and secure his second-consecutive complete game win for the Blue & Gold.

After Friday's thriller, the Eagles and Mocs will do battle on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Game 2 of the series, with Game 3 coming at 1 p.m. Sunday.
