Second-Half Rally Lifts No. 11 Eagles to 15-12 Win Over Sailfish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The 11th-ranked Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team outscored Palm Beach Atlantic (3-9, 0-5 SSC) 7-3 in the third quarter on the way to a 15-12 win on the Sailfish' home field in Sunshine State Conference play on Sunday. The win pushes the Eagles into third place in the league standings with a 3-2 league record and a 12-3 mark overall.

The Eagles scored first but three unanswered goals gave PBA a 3-1 lead and at the end of the first period, the home team led 4-3. The Blue and Gold also recorded the first score of the second to tie the game at 4-4, but in a quarter where goals were at a premium, it was the Sailfish with a 2-1 edge in the quarter and a 6-4 lead at the half.

Ella Howlin's second goal of the game extended the PBA lead to 7-4 to start the third quarter. The ensuing draw went to Callison Foreman who won seven draws in Sunday's game, and Foreman found Caitlin Gavin who scored two goals in a row to cut the deficit to one (7-6). The Sailfish managed to regain a two-goal advantage, but two goals by Samantha Reich bookended a five-goal in 1:40 stretch that put the Eagles ahead 11-8.

After the Sailfish recorded the final goal of the third quarter, Kenley Zeruto finished a Whittaker Smith feed and followed with an assist of her own on an Eliana Enners goal to extend the Eagle advantage to 13-9 to start the fourth. The Sailfish scored two more before Zeruto added her final goal of the game to close out the Eagle win.

Zeruto paced the Eagle offense with six points on four goals and two assists. Enners, Gavin, Foreman and Smith tallied two goals each, and Ava Rogala finished with five draw controls.

The Eagles will play their final home game of the regular season on Saturday, hosting SSC foe Saint Leo at the ERAU Lacrosse Field. Game time is slated for noon.
