No. 5 Women's Tennis Concludes Historic Season in Second Round of NCAA II Regional

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The No. 5 Embry-Riddle women's tennis team (17-8) concluded the 2024 season on Saturday. The fourth-seeded Eagles fell 4-1 to No.1 seed and top-ranked Barry (20-4) in the second round of the NCAA II South Region tournament hosted by Barry at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The 2024 season was the most successful for Embry-Riddle since becoming NCAA Division II members. The Eagles won 17 games in total and were 6-3 in the Sunshine State Conference for a conference winning percentage of .667, marked improvements on its previous bests of 12 and .444.

The doubles started well for ERAU, as Maja Issler and Carla Cabero del Hierro combined to defeat Angela Leweurs and Nathalia Gasparin 5-3 at No. 3 doubles. Barry struck back in the No. 2 spot, with Ailen Crespo and Clara Versier winning 6-4 against Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and Kaylee Kirivong, putting the doubles point in the balance.

The No. 4 pairing of Itxaso Blanco and Laura Cuesta Bret went up 5-3, against the No. 34 duo of Viktoriia Dema and Dinara Alloiarova. The Barry pair tied the match at 5-5, but Blanco recorded a hold and a break to secure a 1-0 lead with a 7-5 victory. Barry tied it up at 1-1 following a singles victory at the No. 6 slot, where Versier won 6-1, 6-2 against Alessia Tripaldelli. The Buccaneers took the lead at No. 5 singles when Alloiarova defeated Cabero del Hierro 6-4, 6-3.

The BU lead became 3-1 when No. 20 Viktoriia Dema defeated No. 52 Issler 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 2 matchup. The Buccaneers clinched victory in the No.1 slot when No. 38 Alina Michalitsch won 6-4, 6-0 against No. 28 Blanco to secure a 4-1 victory for Barry.

Embry-Riddle returns five of the seven players from this season, as they will look to build on their most successful season in Division II in year two of the Chad Berryhill era.
