ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Thanks to another gem thrown by staff ace
Dillon Moran, the Embry-Riddle baseball team picked up its fifth win in a row with a 9-3 victory over Eckerd on Friday. The Eagles (28-17, 14-11 SSC) used 11 hits on the night at the plate as well to run past the Tritons (17-28, 5-20Â SSC).
Â
On the heels of back-to-back complete games, Moran dealt in another dominant performance, going 7.2 innings of four-hit ball, allowing just two walks and two runs against another career-high 11 strikeouts to pick up the win, his seventh of the season.
Â
At the dish,
Tyler Castelli turned in another multi-RBI night, driving in three runs and scoring twice on a 2-for-5 night.
Dillon Lifrieri went 3-for-4 including a pair of doubles, while
Chase Bruno's three-hit night earned him two runs scored.Â
Â
For the sixth consecutive game, the Eagles were the first team to score, doing so in style on Friday. ERAU plated five runs to set the tempo out of the gates.
Alex Britton drew a leadoff walk, followed by a Bruno single to short right.
Camden Traficante (1-for-4, 2R, RBI) then was hit by a pitch to load the bags for Castelli. Castelli sent a screamer through the left side, getting two runs across. Lifrieri followed up two batters later with his first double of the night, scoring Traficante, then
Matthew Coker (1-for-3, RBI) sent another through the left side, scoring Castelli. To round things out,
Timo Aracena (1-for-3, 2RBI) earned a sacrifice fly caught by the second baseman to make it 5-0 after one half inning.
Â
Moran set down the Tritons in order in the first, but allowed a leadoff homer and a walk in the second as Eckerd cut the lead to 5-1. But over the next three innings, the Eagle righty settled in and struck out seven in that time.
Â
Meanwhile in the fifth inning, the Eagle bats put another crooked number on the board with three in the frame. After Bruno sent a one-out single up the middle, Traficante picked up his 17
th double on the year, scoring Bruno from first. Traficante then came home in the next at bat after Castelli poked another single up the middle. Shortly after, Lifrieri connected on his second double of the night, bringing in Castelli to make it 8-2.
Â
In the eighth, Lifrieri sent a one-out single to shallow left center, then was pinch-run for by
Dylan Brazil. Coker then drew a hit-by-pitch before Aracena slammed a double down the right field line to score Brazil from second.
Â
The Tritons added a run in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a couple of walks and some small ball, but the damage was done and the Eagles flew away with the 9-3 win.
Â
ERAU and EC will play two on Saturday to decide the series, beginning at 1 p.m.
