Game Recap: #8 Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Sinks Tars, 1-0

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – For the second time in as many non-conference meetings, a women's soccer match between Embry-Riddle and Rollins was significantly impacted by the weather. The Eagles (3-2) withstood a two-hour lightning delay and scored a late goal to top the Tars (3-1-1) 1-0 on Wednesday at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.

The Eagles had a strong start to the game registering five of the first six shots of the first half, including a Lauryn Mateo strike in the fifth minute that forced a save from Rollins' Lauren Mehos. The Tars weathered the storm, however, and play shifted into the Eagles' half of the field where Rollins took seven shots, five of which were on frame. The Tars also had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks, but didn't convert on any of those set pieces and at the end of the first 45 minutes, the score was tied at 0-0.

The start of the second half was similar to that of the first with the Eagles sending a promising attempt over the cross bar early in the frame, but once again it was the Tars who created more scoring opportunities, outshooting the Eagles 9-4. Despite the advantage, it was the Eagles who found a way to get on the scoreboard.

In the 84th minute, the Tars thwarted an Eagle attack by sending the ball out over the endline for an ERAU corner kick. Berglind Thrastardottir's set piece landed in a crowd at the near post. Out of the scrum that ensued Ida Zetterberg managed to push the ball into the back of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Rollins was unable to get another look at goal and the Eagles ended a long night with the one-goal win.

Oona Jokinen turned a solid performance in goal for the Blue and Gold hauling in eight saves on the way to her second shutout of the season.

The Eagles are back at home on Saturday, hosting first-time foe Edward Waters at the ERAU Soccer Stadium. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
