Game Recap: #8 Women's Soccer |

No. 15 Women’s Soccer Tops Chowan 1-0

SALISBURY, N.C. – The 15th-ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team rebounded from a tough loss on Friday to top Chowan 1-0 in a neutral site game at Catawba University on Sunday. The win moved the Eagles to 1-1 on the year, while Chowan is now 1-1 following the loss.

"Today was a good win for the group," ERAU Head Coach Liam McIlhatton said. "It's always difficult after the quick turnaround from Friday night but I was happy with how we played although there are always aspects that we can improve on. We came away from the game on Friday feeling that we deserved something from the game and it was important that we bounced back. We will get better from this weekend and now the full focus is on our recovery."

The Blue and Gold kept the Hawks pinned in their defensive half of the field for most of the first 45 minutes of play. The Eagles had several looks at goal, outshooting Chowan 8-4 and had additional chances from the corner with a 4-2 advantage in that category, but they were unable to capitalize, resulting in a 0-0 deadlock at the intermission.

The Eagles finally broke through in the 51st minute. After the Hawks sent the ball out over the end line, Wilma Bergman sent a corner kick into the box, which led to a flurry of shots by Embry-Riddle. Freshman Ida Zetterberg's attempt forced a save from Chowan's goalkeeper, but Grace Foyer was on hand to corral the rebound and buried her first goal of the season to put the Eagles up 1-0.

A few minutes later, the Hawks were able to send a shot toward the goal, but ERAU's Oona Jokinen was up to the task and hauled in her second save of the day.  The remainder of the match featured two shots by each team, but none found the back of the net, resulting in the 1-0 final score.

The Eagles will play their first home game of the year at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when they host Valdosta State at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
