Women's Soccer Keeps Another Clean Sheet in 1-0 Win Over Eckerd

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Women's Soccer continued its strong defensive form on Saturday night, securing its fourth clean sheet of the season in a 1-0 victory over Eckerd. Stella Roane was outstanding between the posts, making a crucial double save in the 60th minute off of a Triton penalty kick. Anna Marisa Lara scored the only goal of the night, putting her shot into the roof of the net early in the second half to lift the Eagles to the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a delayed start to the game, the Eagles and Tritons were both ready to attack from the opening whistle. Each team managed to hit the woodwork in the first 10 minutes of the game.
  • Eckerd earned a corner kick in the sixth minute, and after the delivery bounced around in the box, Natalie Rudman poked it towards goal, but was denied by the crossbar.
  • Just four minutes later, the frame of the goal came to the rescue for the Tritons, as Lara was denied by the post after an ERAU set piece.
  • Each team was very strong defensively, only conceding one total shot on target in the first half between the two teams.
  • The pace picked up after halftime, with 11 total shots and six on goal as both teams pressed for the opener.
  • Lara would eventually find her goal in the 54th minute. After some quick play on the right side by Ida Zetterberg and Kaitlyn Kogl, Lara snuck it past the Eckerd goalkeeper from outside of the box.
  • The Tritons had a great opportunity less than five minutes later, when they earned a penalty kick. Amy Woodhead tried to go down the middle with her penalty, but Roane made the save. Woodhead was quickest to react on the rebound, and had another shot, which was saved by Roane again.
  • Roane's heroics helped steady the Eagles, who allowed just two more shots over the final half-hour to secure the clean sheet and another conference win.
