No. 22 Women’s Soccer Downs Saint Leo 2-0

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 22 Embry-Riddle Women's Soccer recorded its sixth shutout of the season on Wednesday evening against Saint Leo. The Eagles found the back of the net in each half, to record a comfortable win over the Lions. Anna Hansson scored her first career goal for the Blue and Gold, while Ria Vlachos and Matilda Taylor each recorded their first assists of the season.

  • The all-time series between the Eagles and Lions now stands at 9-3-1.
  • Embry-Riddle has a perfect 6-0 record at home against Saint Leo.
  • Seven of the previous eight meetings between ERAU and Saint Leo had been decided by one goal or less.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles' had control for much of the contest against Saint Leo, keeping 60% possession in the game, and conceding only two shots on goal in the 90 minutes.
  • In the 19th minute, Emma Guidotti made her first save after a shot from distance by Berglind Thrastardottir. Thrastardottir set two season highs this evening, with four shots, and a pair of shots on goal.
  • Saint Leo's only shot of the first half came in the 31st minute when Katja May's shot was blocked by the Embry-Riddle backline. 
  • Anna Hansson scored her first career goal with the Blue and Gold in the final stages of the first half. A quick touch from Ria Vlachos was able to give Hansson a one-on-one opportunity, which she converted to put the Eagles up 1-0.
  • The second goal for ERAU came less than 10 minutes later. In the 50th minute, Matilda Taylor drifted wide, and bounced a cross into the box, which Ida Zetterberg directed past Guidotti with only one touch. 
  • The Lions tried to mount a comeback, registering three shots in the final 20 minutes, but Roane made a pair of comfortable saves.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • Due to their control of the game, Embry-Riddle was able to keep seven of their eleven starters on the field for all 90 minutes.
  • The Eagles faced four total shots, tied for the least amount of shots they've conceded this season.
  • Kayla Frederick made her first career appearance.
  • Roane remains undefeated in her ERAU career, with a 7-0-6 record, and is the only player to play every minute of this season.
  • Her six shutouts rank in the top ten in program history for a single season.
  • Embry-Riddle is currently tied for 1st place in the SSC standings with #13 Nova Southeastern. Each team has three games left to play, including a head-to-head matchup on the last day of the regular season.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will be home again on Saturday evening where they will have Senior Night as they take on Rollins College. Embry-Riddle will be recognizing six seniors (Thea Nyberg, Ria Vlachos, Matilda Taylor, Olivia Gallo, Kaitlyn Kogl, and Rachel Phillips) in a pregame ceremony.
