No. 22 Women's Soccer Draws 1-1 on Senior Night

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 22 Embry-Riddle Women's Soccer had a back-and-forth contest with Rollins end in a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening. The Eagles recognized six seniors in a pregame ceremony (Thea Nyberg, Ria Vlachos, Matilda Taylor, Olivia Gallo, Kaitlyn Kogl, and Rachel Phillips), with each of the five active seniors in the starting lineup. Rollins had a great start to the game, taking the lead in the 22nd minute, but ERAU responded in the 2nd half, creating multiple chances and converting a penalty in the 56th minute.

ALL-TIME SERIES
  • The all-time series between the Eagles and Tars now stands at 9-8-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was a tale of two halves at Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium on Saturday night.
  • Rollins started with much more possession, and had already forced Stella Roane into a pair of saves in the first 20 minutes.
  • In the 22nd minute, Emma Griner found space inside of the box, and placed her shot into the bottom corner to put Rollins ahead 1-0.
  • After the goal, the Eagles started to respond, outshooting the Tars 11-4 for the rest of the game.
  • The goal for ERAU came early in the second half, when Lauryn Mateo drew a foul in the penalty area, and then converted the penalty kick. The penalty was Mateo's 5th goal of the season, the most on the team.
  • The Blue and Gold were inches away from finding a potential game-winner, seeing Anna Marisa Lara's shot ricochet off the crossbar in the 63rd minute.
  • Again, in the 83rd minute, the woodwork would deny Lara and the Eagles from taking a late lead.
  • One final chance came with 30 seconds left, when Berglind Thrastardottir drove through the center of the field, and took a shot on from the edge of the 18 yard box, forcing Lauren Mehos into a diving save to preserve the draw.
  • Roane made five saves in net for the Eagles, while Mehos was only forced into two saves.
