#12 Women’s Basketball Cruises To 85-51 Win Over Warhawks

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The No. 12 Embry-Riddle women's basketball finished off the opening weekend of the season with a perfect 2-0 record. The Eagles capitalized on another great start, finding themselves up by 30 at the halftime break. For the second consecutive game, the Eagles dominated around the rim, scoring 58 points in the paint, and outrebounding the Warhawks 45-27. Once again the Eagles came to close to many program records. Kailey Turpening recorded 11 assists, good for third most in program history, and 36 made field goals was good for another top-10 all-time mark.

GAME NOTES
  • The Eagles were ranked 12th in the preseason WBCA Coaches' Poll (Oct. 28).
  • Embry-Riddle is 8-0 all-time in the GSC/SSC Crossover, with wins over Montevallo and Auburn-Montgomery for each of the past four years.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • The Blue and Gold got out to an early 14-1 lead, forcing a timeout from the Warhawks just four minutes into the game.
  • Lengemann finished the quarter with 12 points, after going 6-for-6 in the opening ten minutes.
  • Branch had 6 points and 5 rebounds early on in the game, with Embry-Riddle scoring 24 of their 27 points in the paint.
Second Quarter
  • Lengemann stayed perfect in the 2nd quarter, finishing the half with 17 points.
  • Eliana Sheplee added six points and four rebounds on the quarter, with the Eagles staying efficient, shooting .657 from the field in the first half of the game.
  • Embry-Riddle's went into halftime up 50-20 after a buzzer–beating layup from Anye' Staton.
Third Quarter
  • Turpening added three of her 11 assists in the third quarter, assisting Bianca Negreiros on the Eagles first field goal of the half.
  • Auburn Montgomery made adjustments at the break, scoring more points in the third quarter than they did in the whole first half. Tamora Brown had 10 points in the quarter for the Warhawks.
  • Alyssa Brasko grabbed as many rebounds off the bench as the AUM team did in the third quarter, with four total boards.
Fourth Quarter
  • With a comfortable lead, three of the Eagles' five starters did not see the court in the final quarter. Maya Collins played the whole ten minutes, picking up four points, two rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
  • Sydney Roufosse scored a career-high six points going 3-for-4 in the quarter with a pair of boards.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • The 36 made field goals were tied for 6th best in program history, while the .571 field goal percentage was also another top ten all-time mark.
  • After the opening weekend, ERAU has got the best field goal percentage (.585), most assists per game (22.0), and the largest rebounding margin (21.0) in the SSC.
  • Kailey Turpening now owns four of the top-five single game assist marks, after breaking the record last season with 13 versus Northwood (Nov. 29).

UP NEXT
The Eagles will continue their four-game home stand to start the season when they take on Flagler at 6:30 p.m on Wednesday, November 16. AUM lost to Nova Southeastern 91-63 in their matchup on Friday afternoon.
