2025 Women’s Soccer Season Ends in NCAA II National Tournament

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The 2025 Embry-Riddle women's soccer season came to a heartbreaking end on Friday night in Pensacola, Florida, as the Eagles fell 2-0 to Florida Tech. After ERAU saw two of their shots go off the woodwork, a pair of goals in each half from Florida Tech substitutes were enough for the Panthers to advance to the second round. The Blue and Gold outshot Florida Tech 15-14 but were unable to find the back of the net on any of their chances.

RECORDS
#5 Seed Embry-Riddle - 6-2-9 (4-1-5)
#4 Seed Florida Tech -  12-3-6 (5-2-3)

ALL-TIME SERIES
  • The Eagles still lead the all-time series against the Panthers at 9-5-5.
  • This is the first time Florida Tech has beaten Embry-Riddle in the postseason, with ERAU winning each of the previous three matchups (2021, 2022, 2023).
  • This was the first ever neutral site meeting between the two programs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Embry-Riddle got off to a great early start, with five shots in the first 10 minutes.
  • The Panthers keeper was forced into her first save in the opening five minutes, after a shot from Berglind Thrastardottir.
  • In the sixth minute, Anna Marisa Lara created a chance but saw her shot ricochet off the left post.
  • Less than 60 seconds after Lara's shot, Thrastardottir was causing trouble again. The midfielder's next shot hit the top of crossbar before going out for a goal kick.
  • After being put under pressure, the Panthers pinned Embry-Riddle deep. Florida Tech forced Stella Roane into four saves in the next 20 minutes.
  • Just past the half-hour mark, Sara Batchadji forced Roane into two saves in as many minutes, but the Colorado native would ensure the game stayed scoreless.
  • However, in the 35th minute, less than 30 seconds after Carolina Falcao came on the field, she scored her first goal of the season to break the deadlock to make it 1-0.
  • Falcao was able to find space in the box off of an assist by Lauryn Wood, and put her shot beyond the reach of Roane.
  • By the end of the first 45 minutes, Roane had made six saves, a season high in a half for the goalkeeper.
  • The second half looked much more like the opening stages of the game, as Embry-Riddle only conceded five total shots in the half.
  • Lauryn Mateo and Ria Vlachos each had a shot in the 56th and 57th minute to try and tie the game but were denied by Sinkler.
  • With 74 minutes gone, ERAU finally earned their first corner kick of the game. Thrastardottir had a great delivery, missing the back post run of Ida Zetterberg by just inches.
  • As the Eagles continued to push more players forward, Florida Tech capitalized on the counter attack and doubled their advantage in the 84th minute. Lauryn Wood drove down the wing before cutting inside and playing a ball across the box for Mia Otero to finish.
  • Embry-Riddle refused to go down without a fight, seeing Mateo put one final shot on target in the 89th minute.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • ERAU finishes the 2025 season giving up less than one goal per game (0.87).
  • With a 6-3-9 record, the Eagles tied the NCAA Division II record for draws in a season.
  • Roane finished the season as the only Embry-Riddle player to be on the pitch for every minute, totaling 72 saves.
