Baseball Earns Saturday Sweep Against Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle baseball team showcased a potent offense in a Sunshine State Conference double header on Saturday scoring 24 runs in two wins against Barry (RV) on the road. The Eagles defeated the Buccaneers 12-6 in the first game and 12-5 in the second to sweep Barry in both teams' first conference action of the season.
 
Max Kops was the headliner for the Blue & Gold hitting .600 (6-for-10) with eight RBI and three runs scored in the twin bill.
 
Greg Bruno (1-0) went five innings and allowed just one run on two hits to earn the win in the first game and Keegan Perez improved his record to 2-0 with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work in the second.

GAME 1
Second Inning
• After scoring one run in the first inning, the Eagle offense exploded for six runs in the second.
• A single, a walk and a hit batter loaded the bases for AJ Marinello who hit a one-out single through the left side to score Alex Imposimato.
Matthew Coker singled to plate another run, but it was Kops' bases-clearing double that did most of the damage.
• The Eagles batted around the order and in his second trip to the plate in the inning, Imposimato singled to send Kops across to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
 
Fifth Inning
• The Buccaneers managed to get a run back in the fourth, but the Eagles put up a four-spot in the fifth to widen the gap.
• Back-to-back singles by Aiden Schmidt and Imposimato and an Elias Campbell walk loaded the bases.
• Barry reliever Aiden Denton managed to retire the next two batters bringing Kops to the plate.
• Kops lifted Denton's first-pitch fastball over the fence in right centerfield for the first grand slam of his Embry-Riddle career and an 11-1 ERAU advantage.
 
Sixth Inning
• Savi Delgado's double scored Anthony Tralongo for the second Buccaneer run.
 
Seventh Inning
• Kops struck again in the seventh, this time sending a solo shot to right field to make it 12-2 Eagles.
 
Ninth Inning
• The Buccaneers scored a single run in the eighth and mounted a rally in the ninth.
• A bases-loaded walk and fielder's choice added two runs to their tally.
• With two -out, the Buccaneers scored another run on an Eagle error, but after recording a strikeout, reliever Brock Chance got the final Buccaneer hit to fly out to end the game.
 
GAME 2
Fourth Inning
• After three scoreless innings, the Eagles put together a six-run fourth.
• Kops led off the inning with single and moved to third on a Timo Aracena double down the left field line.
• Robby Post, who was 4-for-4 with three RBi in the second game, singled to drive in Kops and Schmidt worked a bases-loaded walk to push Aracena across.
• The Eagles' third run was the result of an error and Coker followed with a three-RBI double to put the Eagles up 6-0.
• A double in the bottom of the inning led to Barry's first run of the game.
 
Fifth Inning
• The Eagles put four more runs on the board in the fifth courtesy of RBI singles by Post, Coker and Adam Kuzmicki.
• The home half of the fifth featured an Albert Espinosa homerun and an Eagle error that added two runs to the Buccaneer tally.
 
Eighth Inning
• The Eagles added a run each in the sixth and seventh inning, but it was Barry who put runs on the board in the eighth.
• Harry Vargas Seguera reached on a one-out single and crossed on Zavier Hatfield's homerun to close out the scoring.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles will host Rollins in a three-game conference series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
