Eagles’ Offense Struggles in Loss to No. 1 Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle baseball team suffered a series-opening loss to top-ranked Tampa at the Tampa Baseball Field on Friday evening. The Eagles managed six baserunners on four hits and two walks and scored their only run of the game late to suffer their fourth loss in Sunshine State Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Tampa took hold of the game early, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings.
Bailey Russell, who entered the game in relief of starter Keagan Perez in the second, pitched a scoreless third before the Spartans tacked on two runs in the fourth.
• Russell shut down the Spartans in the fifth and sixth stanzas, while Cole Turner allowed just one run in the last two innings.
• The Eagle run came in the eighth when Alex Imposimato walked, moved to third on an Elias Campbell double and scored when Matthew Coker grounded out the short stop.
Max Kops, Timo Aracena and Collin Mastromauro collected the only other hits for the Blue and Gold.

Embry-Riddle and Tampa close out the three-game series with a doubleheader slated for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday.
