No. 1 Tampa Sweeps Eagle Baseball in Saturday Doubleheader

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The top-ranked Tampa baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Embry-Riddle in a Sunshine State Conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Spartans pulled out a 4-3, extra-inning win in the first game of the twin bill and topped the Eagles 10-0 in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
• The Eagles outhit the Spartans 8-7 and left 10 runners stranded.
Tristan Harley had his longest outing of the year, logging eight innings.
Timo Aracena and Elias Campbell collected two hits apiece, while Jack Beyl had a hit and an RBI in his only at-bat of the day.
• The Eagles had two baserunners in the top of the second, but it was Tampa who struck first, using two hits and an error to plate two runs in the inning.
• Back-to-back singles put Elias Campbell and Matthew Coker on the corners for the Blue and Gold in the third.
• Campbell scored on AJ Marinello's ground out to the shortstop to make it a 2-1 game.
• After surrendering two runs early, Harley gave the Eagles a chance as he pitched six scoreless innings, facing the minimum in five.
• Marinello earned a one-out walk and moved up on a balk in the eighth.
• Aracena's single to center field allowed Marinello to score the Eagles' second run of the game.
• In the top of the ninth, Adam Kuzmicki, running for Drew Clymer who reached via a walk, scored on Beyl's single through the left side to give the Eagles a 3-2 edge.
• The Spartans hit a homerun in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.
• The Eagles loaded the bases in the 10th, but were unable to push a run across.
• A single and a pair of walks loaded the bases for J.D. Urso who singled to drive in the winning run.
 
GAME 2
• The Eagles had a double by Matthew Coker and a walk to start the second game, but were unable to bring a run across.
• In the bottom of the first, two of the three Spartan baserunners scored to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
• Embry-Riddle got another double, this time from Drew Clymer, in the second, but once again they were unable to convert.
• The Spartans put up a crooked number in the second as a two-run homerun helped Tampa add three runs to their tally.
• Scoreless innings by both teams in the third and fourth frames preceded a four-run Tampa fifth.
• After Spartans added another in the sixth, the Eagles put two runners on again in the seventh, but left both stranded to end the game.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles' will look to bounce back at Sliwa Stadium at 6 p.m. on Friday when they host Saint Leo in the first of a three-game SSC series
