Baseball Comes Up Short Against Saint Leo

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle baseball team came back from 6-2 deficit to tie the game, but a solo run in the ninth helped Saint Leo pull out a 7-6 win over the Eagles in Sunshine State Conference play on Friday evening at Sliwa Stadium. Miscues plagued the Eagles as they committed five errors in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Second Inning
• The Lions used a walk, a wild pitch and an error to score the first run of the game.
 
Third Inning
• A walk and two hit batters loaded the bases for Amai Rivera-Martinez who scored Dylan Mass on a sacrifice fly.
• Another Eagle throwing error helped the Lions increase their lead to 3-0.
 
Fifth Inning
• In the home half of the fifth, Noah Clymer reached on a single up the middle.
• Two batters later, Robert Post took a 2-1 pitch over the fence in left center field to make the score 3-2.
 
Sixth Inning
• A three-hit top of the inning, which included two doubles, allowed the Lions to add three runs to their tally.
Matthew Coker and AJ Marinello singled and walked, respectively, to put runners on first and second.
Max Kops smacked a two-RBI double to left field to score both runners.
• After moving up on passed ball, Kops scored on a fielder's choice to tie cut the Saint Leo lead to one run (6-5).
 
Seventh Inning
• The Eagles' game-tying sixth run came without a hit as Elias Campbell earned a free pass, got to third on a ground out and passed ball and scored on a wild pitch.
 
Ninth Inning
• The Eagles had a runner in scoring position in the eighth, but it was the Lions who scored the go-ahead run on a Braden Killens' RBI-single.
• The bottom of the inning saw the Eagles go down in order, allowing the Lions to escape with the win.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles and the Lions wrap up the three-game series with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
