Softball Sweeps Florida Southern

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Softball secured a series sweep over Florida Southern on Saturday by taking both games of a doubleheader, 9-0 and 5-2. Embry-Riddle never trailed in the series and did most of its damage early on by scoring all of its 14 runs on the day in the first three innings. 

Throughout the series, Embry-Riddle outscored the Mocs 21-4 and outhit FSC 28-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning
  • Embry-Riddle started strong in the first inning, capitalizing on a double by Delaney Morgan and a subsequent error to advance runners. 
  • Raissa Bianco drove in two runs with a single, putting Embry-Riddle ahead 2-0. 
2nd Inning
  • After a series of strategic plays, including a walk and a fielder's choice, Kerry O'Sullivan crossed home plate first, followed by Leah Oberkehr on an error. 
  • Emma Wood contributed with an RBI single, and further errors allowed three more runs, bringing Embry-Riddle's total to 7-0 by the inning's end.
3rd Inning
  • In the third inning, Embry-Riddle's offense continued to perform efficiently. 
  • Oberkehr and Morgan set the stage with hits, and Wood capitalized with a two-RBI double, increasing the lead to 9-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning
  • In the first inning, Embry-Riddle took an early lead against FSC. 
  • Oberkehr walked, then stole second and third bases before scoring on a single by Katriana Bain, marking the team's first run. 
2nd Inning
  • This momentum continued into the second inning where Embry-Riddle extended its lead. 
  • Mallory Kinahan, Addison Orr, and Vanessa Gilbert contributed with consecutive singles, setting the stage for O'Sullivan to reach on a fielder's choice that brought in a run. 
  • Oberkehr then delivered a crucial single to right field, driving in two more runs, and eventually scored herself on a fielder's choice by Morgan, bringing the score to 5-0.
3rd Inning
  • As the game progressed into the third inning, Embry-Riddle's defense held strong, preventing the Moccasins from scoring despite their two hits. 
4th Inning
  • Morgan made an outstanding, full-extension grab in center field to rob the Mocs of a hit. 
5th Inning
  • In the fifth inning, FSC managed to get on the scoreboard with one run, narrowing the gap to 5-1. 
7th Inning
  • In the final inning, Florida Southern added one more run after a wild pitch allowed Meder to score. 
  • Despite this late run, Embry-Riddle's lead proved insurmountable, securing them a 5-2 victory.
