Baseball Drops Series Opener to Lynn

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle baseball team had its second 15-hit game of the season on Friday, but the Eagles were unable to parlay those hits into a win, falling to Lynn 18-9 at Sliwa Stadium.

Lynn used three pitchers and 18 hits to score their 18 runs. Four Eagle batters had multi-hit games including Jack Beyl who was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Max Kops (2-for-2) and Collin Mastromauro (2-for-5) had two RBI apiece as did Cole Turner who drove in both runs on his first hit of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Fighting Knights got off to a fast start, scoring five runs in the first inning.
• After a scoreless second, the Eagles answered with three in the third.
• Robert Post hit a one-out single and after AJ Marinello reached on an error, Kops' single scored both runners.
• Kops later scored on a Beyl single.
• Lynn regained the five-run advantage with three in the top of the fourth, but once again, the Eagles had a response, plating six in the bottom half of the inning.
Aiden Schmidt led off the inning and scored on back-to-back errors, one of which put Post on base.
• Marinello singled home Post and two batters later, Turner, in just his second at-bat of the season, hit a two-RBI single to left field to score Marinello and Kops.
•  Mastromauro hit a two-RBI single to send Turner and Timo Aracena across for a 9-8 Eagle lead.
• The lead was short-lived, however, as the Fighting Knights came right back in the top of the fifth with a six-spot of their own, and added four more in the sixth to widen the gap to 18-9.
• Both sides put runners on in the last three innings but neither team was able to add any more runs resulting in the 18-9 final.
