Men's Tennis Edges Eckerd on Senior Day

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- The No. 10 Embry-Riddle men's tennis team wrapped up Senior Day in winning fashion, edging Eckerd College 5-2 at Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles honored seniors Michele Iftimie, Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo, Pol Fontdegloria, and Safar Rasulov, sending them off with a memorable victory.

ALL-TIME SERIES 

  • The Eagles lead the all-time series against the Tritons 9-2.  

  • ERAU has now won nine straight matches in the series against Eckerd. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • At No. 2, Enrico Rosellini and Mason Cisco delivered a commanding 6-1 victory over Marshall Hulett and Adrian Gheorghe. However, with losses at the other two positions, the Eagles trailed 1-0 heading into singles. 

  • Joshua Nuyts leveled the score as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Eric Asakura. 

  • Rosellini, the only Eagle to go unbeaten on the day, took care of business at No. 2. After dominating the first set, he held his nerve in the second-set tiebreak to defeat Mario Kirkov 6-0, 7-6 (3). 

  • Wilson Igbinovia took his time in the singles to get going at No.1 but once he found his rhythm there was no getting past him, claiming a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Batu Ataseven. 

  • Senior Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo sealed the win for the Eagles at No. 5 with a tight, two-set battle, prevailing 7-5, 7-6 (5).  

  • The final point came courtesy of Enrique Amaya at No. 6, who closed out Lukas Palla in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. 

UP NEXT 

The Eagles will close out regular season play at home on Tuesday, taking on No.2 Valdosta State at 2 p.m.
