Eagles Rally for Series Win Over Palm Beach Atlantic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle baseball team trailed for much of the day's play in a Saturday doubleheader against Palm Beach Atlantic. But the Eagles struck late in the second game to split the twin bill and win the Sunshine State Conference series against the Sailfish on the road. The Eagles dropped the first game 8-3, but rallied for a 7-3 victory in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
• The Eagles outhit the Sailfish 11-9 in the first game but left nine runners stranded.
• After scoring a run in the first and two more in the second, the Sailfish used an error and a three-run home run to score four runs with two outs in the third.
• The Sailfish' second home run of the game made it 8-0 in favor of the home team at the end of four innings.
• In the top of the fifth, Elias Campbell singled and moved up on a PBA error.
• Back-to-back singles by Aiden Schmidt and AJ Marinello scored Campbell.
Cooper Schmidt singled to load the bases and Timo Aracena worked a walk that scored Aiden Schmidt to make the score 5-2.
• The Eagles' only extra-base hit of the game came in the seventh when Jack Beyl doubled home Aracena.
• The Eagle pitching staff held the Sailfish scoreless through the last four innings, but the offense was unable to close the gap further.
 
Game 2
• The Eagles left 11 baserunners stranded through seven innings.
• Once again, the Sailfish got their offense going early, plating two runs in the first and another in the fourth to lead 3-0.
• After seven scoreless innings, the Eagles finally broke through in the top of the eighth.
• Beyl led off the inning with a single through the left side and Aiken Santana reached base on a throwing error that put runners on second and third.
• Campbell hit a double to right field to score Beyl and Santana.
• After Aiden Schmidt laid down a perfect bunt single, Marinello hit a three-run blast over the fence in left centerfield to give the Eagles a 5-3 lead.
• Marinello, who was 3-for-5 with five RBI in the nightcap, came through again in the ninth, this time with a double that scored Aiden Schmidt and Campbell to seal the 7-3 win for the Eagles.
Spencer Marinac tossed two scoreless innings to get the win.
• After earning the save in Friday's game, Joe Balsam entered the game in the eighth and recorded four strikeouts in two innings to notch his fifth save of the season.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles are back on the road on Thursday, traveling to Lakeland for another SSC series. The Blue & Gold will go up against ninth-ranked Florida Southern at 6 p.m. on Thursday followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday.
