Softball Celebrates Seniors With Series Win Over Sailfish

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Softball sent its nine seniors off into the sunset with a series victory over Palm Beach Atlantic after splitting a Saturday doubleheader. The Sailfish took game one 5-2, but the Eagles responded with a 4-3 win in the season finale.

ERAU finished with a 15-15 Sunshine State Conference record, extending its streak of finishing at or above .500 in conference play to 10-straight seasons. Embry-Riddle has never finished with a losing record in conference play in its history.

Prior to the doubleheader, Embry-Riddle celebrated its nine seniors: Katriana Bain, Raissa Bianco, Isabelle Bonn, Serenity Jaenichen, Mallory Kinahan, Kelsey Kressler, Ginna Mohr, Delaney Morgan, and Kerry O'Sullivan.

  • PBA took command early, using four singles to score three runs.
2nd Inning
  • Wood helped cut the deficit by getting in scoring position with a leadoff single and stolen base.
  • Then, in her first-career start, Mohr picked up her first-career hit and RBI by driving in Wood to get the Eagles on the board.
3rd Inning
  • A single and a double by PBA brought the deficit back up to three runs at 4-1.
4th Inning
  • Kressler stole the spotlight after she made a fantastic diving catch in foul ground by third base.
5th Inning
  • The Sailfish sent a blast over the outfield fence and just inside the left field foul pole to make it a 5-1 contest.
  • However, ERAU flashed the leather as Jaenichen, Bianco and Wood turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
6th Inning
  • Morgan slapped a double to left with one out.
  • After a flyout, Bain singled through the left side to bring Embry-Riddle back within three, but that was as close as the Eagles would get.

Game 2 | Embry-Riddle - 4, Palm Beach Atlantic - 3

HOW IT HAPPENED

2nd Inning
  • PBA struck first once again after four-straight batters reached base.
  • A walk followed by back-to-back doubles started the scoring.
  • Then a wild pitch and a single made it a 3-0 contest.
  • ERAU answered immediately as Kinahan walked and stole second to reach scoring position.
  • That set Kressler up for an RBI single for the Blue and Gold's first run.
  • Kressler later scored on a throwing error from the shortstop.
3rd Inning
  • From there, the Eagles' defense shut down the Sailfish by limiting PBA to one hit for the rest of the game.
  • Morgan reached second with a walk and a steal.
  • Wood capitalized on this opportunity with an RBI single up the middle.
  • She scored soon after on a wild pitch to give Embry-Riddle a 4-3 advantage.
  • That slim lead held up until the end of the game as the Eagles retired 13-straight batters from the second to the sixth innings.
6th Inning
  • PBA threatened in the sixth when the potential tying run singled and advanced to second on an overthrow.
  • However, Shelby Morse induced a flyout to center to end the threat.
