Women's Soccer Finishes Road Trip Still Undefeated

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Women's Soccer played its second matchup of the week against a top-10 nationally ranked team on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles (1-0-1) got off to another fast start against #7 West Florida (1-0-1), taking a 2-0 lead in the first half. It marks the second straight match to open the season in which ERAU has scored within the first 10 minutes.

ALL-TIME SERIES
  • West Florida leads the all-time series 2-0-1.
  • This is the first regular season meeting between the teams. They're previous two meetings were in NCAA Division II national tournaments (2021, 2022).
  • The matchup was the first between the two teams at the UWF Soccer Complex in Pensacola, Fla.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Embry-Riddle got off to another quick start this afternoon. Anna Marisa Lara scored her first career goal in the 9th minute from outside the box to put the Eagles up 1-0.
  • Just past the half-hour mark, Lara doubled her career tally, again scoring from distance, putting ERAU in front 2-0. Lauryn Mateo provided the assist on Lara's second goal, giving Mateo a point in each game of the season so far.
  • West Florida was aggressive going forward throughout the 90 minutes, registering 27 total shots and 13 shots on goal.
  • With just minutes to go before halftime, Jillian Thompson got the Argonauts on the scoreboard with a shot from the right wing after an assist from Olof Thorvaldsdottir.
  • In the 72nd minute, on UWF's 21st shot of the day, they were again able to find the back of the net. Olof Thorvaldsdottir scored her second goal of the season after her earlier assist. 

INSIDE THE STATS
  • Head Coach Liam McIlhatton named an unchanged starting lineup for the second game of the season.
  • Stella Roane made a career-high ten saves, the most for an ERAU goalkeeper since November 2021.
  • The Eagles have scored from every shot on goal this season.

Embry-Riddle will have some well-earned rest after this weekend. The team will be off for the next ten days before they get back on the road to play Valdosta State on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 6:00 p.m ET in Valdosta, Ga.
