DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle softball opened Sunshine State Conference play on Friday night, hosting Eckerd at the Embry-Riddle Softball Field in Daytona Beach.
The Eagles came out firing early on, but the Tritons scored four unanswered runs late to hand Embry-Riddle a 5-4 loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning:
- Eckerd struck first with a leadoff single followed by another base hit, placing runners on the corners.
- The Tritons plated a run with a fielder's choice for the 1-0 edge in the opening frame.
- Embry-Riddle took advantage of three straight walks to open the bottom of the inning before scoring the tying run on a fielder's choice turned error.
- The Eagles plated three more runs with a bases-clearing triple from Addison Orr to claim a 4-1 advantage.
2nd Inning:
- Emma Wood recorded a two-out triple in the bottom of the inning but was left stranded to close.
6th Inning:
- Four scoreless innings would pass before Eckerd cut the deficit in half with a double and an RBI ground out.
7th Inning:
- The Tritons opened with a leadoff single and took advantage of an error with two outs to place runners on the corners.
- Eckerd then scored one run on a fielding error to pull the deficit down to 4-3 before knocking a single to left to load the bases.
- The Tritons plated two runs on another single to left field, capturing a 5-4 lead.
- After a leadoff strikeout, Leah Oberkehr walked and stole her third base of the game to move into threatening position.
- A walk from Emma Wood put a pair on before Shelby Morse's single up the middle loaded the bases.
- Unfortunately, the Eagles were left scoreless in the inning, leaving three runners on to drop the 5-4 decision.
INSIDE THE STATS
- Eckerd finished with a 7-5 advantage in hits while Embry-Riddle gave up a pair of errors.
- Morse went 2-of-3 from the plate and pitched for 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on four hits, a walk, and a strikeout.
- Wood has produced at least one hit in 11-consecutive games with her first triple of the season.
- Orr notched a career-best three RBI with her triple, her first of the season.
- Oberkehr recorded a season-high three stolen bases to move to 11-for-11 on the season and a career total of 83, just five away from the program's individual career record set.
- With the two triples, ERAU has recorded 11 extra-base hits this season, producing one or more in six of nine games played.
