Eagles Drop Series to Eckerd with a Pair of Losses

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle softball continued the weekend series against Eckerd on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Tritons for a doubleheader at the Embry-Riddle Softball Field.

The Eagles dropped all three games of the series, falling to the Tritons in Daytona Beach.

  • Embry-Riddle is now 23-7 all-time against Eckerd.
  • Saturday's losses mark the first time ERAU has lost a series to the Tritons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After three scoreless innings, Eckerd struck first in the fourth with a leadoff triple from Ella Coiner before she would score on a passed ball.
  • Embry-Riddle leveled the score in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a solo blast from Emma Wood – the Eagles' first homer of the season.
  • Three more scoreless frames would pass, extending the 1-1 game into extras.
  • The Tritons charged in the eighth inning with three hits as well as taking advantage of an ERAU error to plate three runs, claiming a 4-1 edge.
  • Unfortunately, the Eagles were handed the loss with a swift three-up, three-down bottom half of the eighth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Embry-Riddle got the bats started early with an opening single from Wood followed by a base hit from Oberkehr, but left the pair stranded in the first.
  • Eckerd lit up the second frame with four hits, benefitting from an ERAU error to plate six runs.
  • The Eagles managed to respond in the bottom of the third with a leadoff triple from Sierra Lipton followed by an RBI groundout from Wood.
  • The Tritons slammed the door shut in the sixth inning with a three-run blast over the scoreboard to capture a 9-1 victory.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • Eckerd held a 9-6 advantage in hits.
  • Wood and Oberkehr led with two hits apiece while Lipton notched the lone extra-base hit.
  • Shelby Morse recorded the loss after starting the game and pitching for 5.0 innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits, three walks and three strikeouts.
  • Ava Domenici closed out the final inning of play with three runs allowed on three hits and a strikeout.
  • ERAU batted .208 for the series against the Tritons, posting six runs on 16 hits.
  • The Eagles have now produced 14 extra-base hits this season, led by Wood with six which includes the team's lone homer.
