No. 6 Embry-Riddle Continues Winning Streak with Win Over No. 10 Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 6 Embry-Riddle women's tennis team captured a big road non-conference match over No.10 Columbus State, defeating the Cougars 5-2 on Sunday.

  • This was the first ever series meeting between the Eagles and Cougars.
HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Embry-Riddle dropped the doubles point despite a strong showing at No. 3. Ashley Moinard and Mariana Cabrera earned a 7-6, 7-3 victory, but CSU secured wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to take the early 1-0 lead.

  • The Eagles responded in singles play, beginning at the top of the lineup. Amelie Gindl battled back after dropping the first set to earn a 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1.

  • Laura Cuesta Bret evened the match with a dominant 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles.

  • Benedetta Sensi followed with a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 to give ERAU the lead.

  • Daniela Fernandez Junquera added another point at No. 4, holding off Laura Pesickova 7-6, 6-3 to push the Eagles closer to clinching.

  • Ashley Moinard had a dominant performance as well, as she had a 6-0,6-4 victory at No.5 singles which helped win the match up.

UP NEXT
The Eagles return to action tomorrow at 11 a.m. against No. 21-ranked Auburn Montgomery. The match will be played at the John W. Walden Tennis Center in Columbus, Ga.
