DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team earned its second win of the season in a 3-1 victory against West Alabama on Saturday night at the ERAU Softball Field.
The Eagles recovered from an early 1-0 deficit, scoring a run in the fourth inning and two in the sixth to surpass the Tigers in the nightcap of day three play at the 2026 Eagle Classic in Daytona Beach.

HOW IT HAPPENED
2nd Inning:
- After a scoreless opening frame, West Alabama struck first in the second taking advantage of an ERAU error followed by an RBI bunt single to plate a run, leaving two stranded in the process.
- Riley Sullivan reached first thanks to a UWA error but was caught attempting to steal second a play later.
- Hayley McElroy earned a two-out walk, but the Eagles left her on base to close out the inning scoreless.
3rd Inning:
- The ERAU defense managed to limit the Tigers to one hit to keep the deficit at one run.
- Embry-Riddle's bats began to warm up with a leadoff single from Leah Oberkehr followed immediately by a single through the right side from Emma Wood.
- ERAU left both runners stranded by closing the inning with back-to-back fly-outs and a popup.
4th Inning:
- West Alabama placed two runners on with a walk and a two-out single, but Olivia Dougherty closed the inning with her fifth strikeout of the evening to keep a pair of base runners stranded.
- Embry-Riddle eventually answered with a run in the fourth inning, scoring on an RBI single from McElroy that drove in Ava Arnold who reached on a dropped third strike earlier in the inning.
6th Inning:
- ERAU blanked UWA with a quick three-up and three-down in the top half of the frame before taking a 3-1 edge in the bottom half.
- Riley Sullivan began the inning with a walk before a sacrifice bunt from McElroy advanced the runner.
- Oberkehr followed with a bunt single herself to place runners on the corners and giving ERAU a threatening opportunity with two outs on the board.
- Oberkehr advanced to second on a stolen base in a play that would produce two throwing errors from the UWA defense.
- Sullivan and Oberkehr would both manage to touch home plate due to the miscues, elevating the Eagles to a 3-1 lead.
INSIDE THE STATS
- Oberkehr led the game with two hits and a run scored while moving her career stolen base total to 79.
- Mattea Martin, McElroy, and Wood each recorded a hit to round out ERAU's total to five.
- The Eagles finished the game with a .227 batting average, holding a narrow 5-4 advantage in hits.
- Dougherty pitched a complete game in the circle for her first win of the season, recording seven strikeouts and allowing the lone run on four hits and two walks.
- ERAU's defense finished with a .964 fielding percentage, giving up just one error while UWA produced three errors and a .880 fielding percentage.
- Embry-Riddle left eight runners stranded throughout the game.
