MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team lost a tough Sunshine State Conference matchup on the road this evening against Florida Tech, 7-1.
The Eagles remained in the game for most of the night, but the Panthers had big innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to run away with the victory.

- The series is now a 16-14 advantage for the Panthers with Florida Tech winning two games in a row.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning:
- Leah Oberkehr walked on three pitches and stole her 31st base of the season, however the Eagles weren't able to capitalize as Oberkehr was left stranded.
- The Panthers scored first with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame to take an early lead.
4th Inning:
- A Shelby Morse single along with a Vanessa Gilbert hit-by-pitch and a Kendall Wilkie walk led to the Eagles having the bases loaded. Unfortunately, they would not capitalize as they left all runners on base.
5th Inning:
- Florida Tech moved to a 3-0 edge in the fifth frame wth back-to-back doubles, plating a pair of runners after taking advantage of a lead off error.
6th Inning:
- Gianna Domenici got the Eagles on the board in the top of the sixth as she hit an RBI single to score Morse.
- The Panthers were able to score four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to run away with the score. Walks were an issue in the inning for the Eagles as they walked five batters in the inning.
INSIDE THE STATS
- Leah Oberkehr stole two bags to move to 32-of-33 in stolen bases, ranking first in the SSC.
- It was a rough day at the plate for the Eagles, batting just 4-for-24 for a .167 team batting average.
- Olivia Doughtery made her 15th start of the season, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing two earned runs on three walks and four strikeouts.
- Dougherty now moves to 105 strikeouts on the season, ranking fourth in the league in total strikeouts as well as sixth in the conference with a 1.96 ERA this season.
