DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Five Embry-Riddle student-athletes earned weekly honors across the Sunshine State Conference and Peach Belt Conference on Monday afternoon. Members of the men's and women's track and field teams, along with the women's tennis team, were recognized for their performances over the past week.
Women's Track and Field
Taylor Roth, who ran 2:09.16 in the 800-meter to win the Embry-Riddle Blue & Gold Invite was recognized as both the SSC Distance and PBC Track Athlete of the Week. The race featured four runners reaching the NCAA II provisional Standard with Roth besting all of them. Her mark currently ranks 24th in all of NCAA II this season.
Alexandra Baltazar Hall was named the Field Athlete of the Week by the PBC for the third consecutive week, after finding success in both the Hammer and the Discus at the Embry-Riddle Blue & Gold Invite. She won the Discus and placed third in the Hammer. Her throw in the discus was an Embry-Riddle program record, 49.60m. She is now tied for the 10th farthest throw in NCAA II this season.
Men's Track and Field
Derick Brown finished first in both the 110 meter hurdles and the 400 meter hurdle race at the Embry-Riddle Blue & Gold Invite. He ran 14.18 in the 110mH, meeting the NCAA II Provisional Standard mark and moving up to the second-best time in Embry-Riddle history. He followed that performance up with a 54.15 in the 400mH which was another top-five all-time Embry-Riddle performance and another career high for the redshirt junior. Brown now owns the No. 24 time in NCAA II for the 110mH. His pair of wins earned him recognition as the SSC Sprinter of the Week and PBC Track Athlete of the Week.
Noah Gammichia was honored as the PBC Field Athlete of the Week after winning the javelin competition at the Embry-Riddle Blue and Gold Invite with a throw of 62.65m, ranking as the NCAA II No. 35 mark.
Women's Tennis
Embry-Riddle earned a pair of wins against top-20 teams in the country when they beat #16 Flagler and #8 Florida Southern each by a score of 6-1. Ashley Moinard went 4-0 during the week with a win in both singles and doubles against the Moccasins and Saints. Moinard and Mariana Cabrera defeated Sofia Balsera/Leah Waechter of #16 Flagler 6-3 and then at the No. 5 position defeated Lea Jakic 6-1, 6-4.
Moinard/Cabrera earned another valuable doubles point when they bested Annika Berrendorf/Jolie Miller of #8 Florida Southern in the No. 3 doubles position, 6-2. She finished off the perfect week with a 1-6, 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Jolie Miller at the No. 5 singles position.
