Eagles Suffer Narrow Defeat on Senior Night

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle softball hosted Nova Southeastern for the Friday night opener of the final Sunshine State Conference home series of the season, celebrating six seniors prior to first pitch.

The Eagles suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat to the Sharks despite a surge in the fifth inning.

Ahead of Friday's game, Embry-Riddle honored six seniors: Ava Domenici, Gianna Domenici, Mattea Martin, Shelby Morse, Leah Oberkehr, and Emma Wood.

  • Embry-Riddle holds a 15-10 overall record against the Sharks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning:
  • The Sharks opened with two runs in the first frame, using a walk, a single up the middle, a fly-out, and a two-RBI double to take the lead.
  • Sierra Lipton notched a lead-off hit in the bottom half of the inning, but a double play and a strikeout closed the first inning with the Eagles behind by two.
3rd Inning:
  • After a quick scoreless second inning, Nova Southeastern added a third run with a pair of base hits and a sac fly.
5th Inning:
  • Another scoreless frame would pass before the Sharks moved to a four-run advantage in the fifth inning.
  • NSU put together three hits and took advantage of an ERAU error to plate a run.
  • Embry-Riddle eventually responded with a three-run inning thanks to hits from Shelby Morse, Addison Orr, Gianna Domenici and a bases-clearing double from Ava Arnold.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • The Sharks led 9-7 in hits, batting .300 for the evening while the Eagles hit .259.
  • ERAU hit .400 when runners were in scoring position and .333 with runners on base.
  • Seven individual Eagles notched hits with Arnold recording a season-high three RBI with her double in the fifth, her fifth extra-base hit of the season.
