No. 7 Men’s Tennis Drops Heartbreaker to No. 8 Rollins

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The seventh-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team suffered a tough Sunshine State Conference loss on Friday as the Eagles were edged 4-3 by eighth-ranked Rollins (14-2, 4-2 SSC) at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles swept all three doubles, but won just two singles matches in a contest that was suspended overnight due to rain to move to 11-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.

• Rollins leads the series 16-14, including seven of the last eight meetings.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• At No. 2 doubles, Josh Nuyts and Joao Morgado cruised to a 6-2 win over Moritz Anterist and Fabian Gusic.
• On court one, Marc Mail and Frederick Tu won golden point to break the eighth-ranked duo of Richard Stoiberer and Peter Tran in the final game, winning 6-4 and securing the doubles point.
Mason Cisco and Manuel Lanteri battled to a 7-6 win over Lawson Prather and Nicolas De Giacomo, winning 7-2 in the tiebreaker.
• Morgado gave the Eagles their first singles point with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Stoiberer at No. 5.
• The Tars picked up wins at the second and sixth positions to tie the team score at 2-2.
• The last three matches off the court all went to three sets.
• Playing at the top spot in the singles lineup, No. 20 Mail rallied from a tough first-set loss to best sixth-ranked Prather 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
• Anterist topped Tu in three (5-7, 7-5, 6-0) to tie the score again and de Giacomo outlasted Nuyts 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 to clinch the win.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles play the first of a three-match SSC road swing on Saturday, traveling to West Palm Beach for a 1 p.m. tilt against Palm Beach Atlantic.
