DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Embry-Riddle (3-0-1) earned their third consecutive 2-1 win of the season on Thursday afternoon as they defeated Columbus State (1-2-0) at home. The Eagles got off to quick start with a pair of goals in the opening 11 minutes, before CSU pulled a goal back with less than five minutes to go until halftime. There were a dozen shots taken in the final 45 minutes, but neither side could find the back of the net again.
 

First Half
ERAU opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the game after the Cougars failed to fully clear a corner kick. The ball bounced to Lauryn Mateo at the edge of the box and the senior was able to curl her left-footed shot into the top corner. Ebba Fjordskaer doubled the Eagles' advantage at 10:57 when Berglind Thrastardottir played a ball over the top of the Cougars' back line and Elowsson quickly laid it off for Fjordskaer to convert past Ashlyn Valentine. After the opening 11 minutes, there were only two more shots for the remainder of the half. Stella Roane saved a shot at 28:31 from CSU, but a long-range effort from Jada Goodman at 41:31 bounced off the slick grass and past the goalkeeper to bring Columbus State back to within one at the break. 
 

Second Half
The pace of the game picked up dramatically to start the second half with the two squads combining for eight shots in the first 12 minutes. Roane made another pair of saves while Agnes Vigholm took a pair of shots in the 50th and 51st minute. CSU continued to threaten with 12 corner kicks throughout the game but were unable to find much success on set pieces. Calli Berrang forced a save from Valentine in the 73rd minute before Columbus State raced the other way and forced the Blue and Gold into a save at 74:42. The last chance of the game fell to the Cougars but their shot in the final minute sailed over the crossbar to give ERAU their third win in six days.
 

- This was the second consecutive season that Embry-Riddle has got off to a quick start against the Cougars. Last season, the Eagles were up 2-0 inside of the first five minutes through goals from Ida Zetterberg and Lauryn Mateo before an 89th minute goal from CSU gave us a similar 2-1 scoreline.

- Elowsson provided her first assist since transferring to ERAU from UTRGV on Fjordskaer's goal.

- Roane made a season high five saves, including three in the second half to ensure the Eagles held on to their one-goal advantage.

- Fjordskaer, who got credit for the game-winning goal, has now scored or assisted in three consecutive games for the Blue and Gold.

- Mateo, Fjordskaer, and Thrastardottir are all tied with a team-high two goals this season.
 

The Eagles will close out their five-game home stand on Saturday, September 5, when they host Alabama-Huntsville at noon. This will be the first all-time meeting between ERAU and the Chargers. The match will broadcast on the SSC Digital Network and there is free admission to all regular season home games this season.
