Biography

Fall 2012: Listed at No. 31 in the ITA/NAIA preseason national singles poll…posted a 4-2 singles record in the fall…advanced to the quarterfinal of the USTA/ITA Florida Regional with a 7-5, 6-2 win over St. Thomas Juan Bravo (Sept. 28)…compiled an even 2-2 record in doubles play.
 
As A Junior in 2011-12: Recipient of the ITA’s Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship…second team All-Conference…NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete…ITA All-America Scholar-Athlete…Academic All-Conference selection...was 15-3 in singles play on the year, including a 10-2 mark in dual match play…was 4-0 in the fifth spot and 6-2 in the sixth spot in the singles lineup…undefeated at 3-0 in conference play…clinched the Eagles’ victories against Florida Southern (Mar. 4) and Oklahoma Christian (Mar. 21)…partnered with Adrian Bayh and Patrick Besc for a combined 3-1 doubles record. Fall 2011: Ranked 29th in the ITA/NAIA preseason poll…earned wins in five of the six singles matches he played in…notched three three-set victories in the main draw of the USTA/ITA Florida Regional…bowed out of the tournament in the semifinal round with a loss (6-2, 6-1) to teammate and eventual national champion Chris Freeman (Oct. 1).

As A Sophomore in 2010-11: Named to the All-Conference second team…ITA All-America Scholar-Athlete…Academic All-Conference selection…finished third on the team in wins with a 21-11 singles record…one of only two student-athletes to go 6-0 in conference matches…played eight matches each at the fifth and sixth singles positions and was 4-0 at the No. 4 spot…scored the clincher in two matches including St. Thomas (Mar. 4) and Oklahoma Baptist (Mar. 19)…also clinched the Eagles’ win against William Carey in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Anton Ivanov (May 18)…was 8-8 in doubles, including a 3-3 mark in partnership with Chris Freeman. Fall 2010: Racked up eight wins in singles play…won his first three matches at the USTA/ITA Regional to advance to the quarterfinals where he defeated St. Thomas’ Jeremy Bache 7-5, 6-1 before falling to ERAU teammate Charlie Rice 6-1, 6-1 in the semis…teamed up with Sean de la Bastide for a 2-3 doubles record with both wins coming at the ERAU Open (Sept. 25-27).

As A Freshman in 2009-10: Played in 15 matches, posting a 9-5 recording, including a perfect 5-0 tally in dual matches…played four of his five dual matches at the No. 6 spot…undefeated in conference play at 2-0 after picking up wins against Warner’s Francisco DelCastillo (8-3) on Mar. 24 and Northwood’s Marco Casteneda (6-1, 6-0) on Apr. 3…turned a 5-5 doubles record…teamed up with Sean de la Bastide for his only conference doubles win of the year as the duo downed DelCastillo and Sokol 8-3 (Mar. 24)…Fall 2009: Went 4-2 in singles action…notched wins against NCAA I Jacksonville’s Jimmy Esteban (6-1, 6-1) and Logan Shalmi (6-4, 6-2) in the ERAU Open (Sept. 25-27)…also defeated Ruben Pinate 6-3, 6-1 (Sept. 25) of Barry, ranked second in the NCAA II preseason poll…claimed three doubles wins…Spennare and Zander Woodford-Smith defeated Webber International’s Philippe Andermatt and Tyler Heath 8-6 in the quarterfinals of the ITA Florida Regional (Oct. 3)…the duo fell to teammates Adrian Bayh and Jan Hoekzema 8-4 in the regional semifinal (Oct. 3).

Prep: Graduated from Aspero Idrotts Gymnasium in 2008…played tennis for coach Tom Henriksen…compiled a 20-7 singles record.

Personal: Born in Gothenburg, Sweden on June 1, 1989…parents are Ulf and Marie Spennare…majoring in Business Administration.
