Biography

Fall 2010: Ranked a career-best No. 6 in the ITA/NAIA preseason singles poll…led the team in wins with 10…won seven matches in a row to start the fall season…won all three of his matches in the ERAU Open (Sept. 25-26)…swept through the opening rounds of the USTA/ITA Florida  Regional to advance to the quarterfinals where topped teammate David Spennare 6-1, 6-1, to secure a spot in the title match for the second straight year (Oct. 3)…held off ERAU newcomer Simon Felix 6-3, 6-4 to capture the regional title on Oct. 4 and move on to the USTA/ITA National College Championships where he finished sixth…teamed up with Felix for an 8-4 mark in doubles play…the duo dropped just two sets in the first three rounds of the USTA/ITA Regional…Rice and Felix defeated Northwood’s David Cathalina and Edward Elliott 6-4, 6-1 to win the regional doubles crown…the tandem won its opening match against Graceland’s Kai Drewcki and Carlos Yanes en route to a fourth-place finish and the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships…Rice and Felix are ranked fourth in the ITA/NAIA preseason doubles poll.

As A Sophomore in 2009-10:
Second team All-American…Daktronics-NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete…second team All-Conference selection…Academic All-Conference…finished with the second-highest singles win total on the team with a 22-13 record…posted a 15-7 dual match record…undefeated in conference play at 5-0…clinched victories for the Eagles in five matches…defeated Union’s (Ky.) Pierre Vernin 6-1, 6-2 to score the clincher and help the Blue and Gold to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Championship…went 23-12 in doubles play…owned a nine-match winning streak from Mar. 8-Apr 3…partnered with Zander Woodford-Smith for a 12-3 record in dual matches…Fall 2009: Won seven of his first eight matches of the fall…ranked 19th in the first ITA poll of 2009-10…topped 11th-ranked Marco Mokrzycki of NCAA II No. 2 Barry 7-6 (7), 6-4 at the ERAU Open (Sept. 26)…took teammate Peter Francis to three sets before advancing to the ITA Florida Regional title match with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (2) win... partnered with Luke Maricic for a 4-5 doubles mark…the duo defeated 23rd-ranked Ales Svigeli and Marco Mokrzycki of NCAA II No. 2 Barry 8-4 at the ERAU Open (Sept. 25)…they also notched an 8-6 victory over Alex Jorne and Davis Taylor of NCAA I Auburn (Nov. 20).

As A Freshman in 2008-09: Honorable mention All-America Scholar Athlete… ITA Scholar Athlete…Academic All-Conference…posted a 19-5 singles record, including a 12-4 mark in dual matches…led the team in wins on the year…undefeated in league play at 5-0…played the majority of his dual matches at the No. 5 spot, going 6-3…was 4-1 at No. 4 and 2-0 at the No. 3 position…scored the clincher against No. 10 Rollins with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Bill Rockwood at the No. 4 spot (Feb. 24)…also clinched the Eagles’ 6-3 win over Concordia (N.Y.), topping Karim Belhadj 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5…registered shutouts against Northwood’s Kevin Butler (Mar. 28) and Warner’s Andres Palceus (Mar. 30)…compiled a 17-6 doubles record…was 13-5 in tandem with Adrian Bayh…the duo was 2-1 in the conference and was ranked 11th in the final ITA poll… topped Nick Rowlands and Gustavo Caravalho of NCAA II 10th-ranked Rollins 8-5 (Feb. 24). Fall 2008: Racked up seven wins in eight matches in his Embry-Riddle debut...first collegiate win came in the first round of the ERAU Open when he defeated Rollins’ Andy Johnson 6-3, 6-2 (Sept. 19)...topped Bethune Cookman’s Kristofer Martin (6-1, 6-3), Rollins’ Gustavo Caravalho (6-7, (0-6), 6-1, 10-6) and Florida Southern’s Brian de Montfortt (7-6, 6-3 en route to the Blue Flight Singles title at the ERAU Open...won his first three matches in the ITA/Florida Regional (Oct. 5-7) to get to the semifinals where he lost to teammate Carlos Bes Comeras (0-6, 6-7 (2))...teamed up with Istvan Bolgar to down the St. Thomas tandem of Jeremy Bache and William Fountain in the first round of doubles play at the ITA Florida Regional.

Prep: Graduated from St. Stephens Episcopal School in 2007...competed in the Texas Section of the USTA...named Newcomer of the Year in 2005...recipient of the team’s Hard Worker of the Year award in 2006...All-Region selection...ranked among the Top 40 in Texas and the top 250 in the nation.

Personal: Born November 11, 1988 in Corpus Christi, Texas...parents are Robert and Janet Rice...majoring in Aerospace Engineering.
