The 2024-25 season marks Fernando Alonso’s first as a graduate assistant coach for the Embry-Riddle men’s tennis program.
 
Originally from Zaragoza, Spain, Alonso was a mainstay in the Embry-Riddle men’s tennis lineup in each of his five seasons of competition, finishing with a 66-42 record in singles and a 66-26 ledger in doubles. He partnered with Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo for a 37-16 doubles record over four seasons, and in 2023-24 he teamed up with Caelan Potts for a 13-4 mark at the No. 2 spot in the lineup and a spot on the All-Sunshine State Conference second team in doubles.
 
Alonso excelled in the classroom in pursuit of his undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering. He graduated with a 3.953 grade point average and earned numerous accolades. He was a five-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection, and was three-time recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award. In 2022-23, he earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors and was awarded the 2023-24 Steve & Vicky Ridder Scholarship.
 
Alonso is working toward a master’s degree in aerospace engineering.
