Fall 2010: Recipient of the 2010-11 Embry-Riddle Champions of Character and Steve & Vicky Ridder scholarships…ranked seventh in the ITA/NAIA preseason singles poll…fall campaign was curtailed due to injury…posted a 2-3 record in singles play…notched wins against Florida Southern’s Brian deMontfort (6-3, 6-2) on Sept. 25 and Webber International’s Thiago Marion (6-0, 6-3) on Oct. 2…went 3-1 with Peter Francis as his doubles partner with all three victories coming at the ERAU Open…Hoekzema and Francis are rated sixth in the ITA/NAIA preseason doubles poll.
As A Junior in 2009-10: First team All-American…ITA/NAIA All-American…Sun Conference Player of the Year…Daktronics-NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete…Academic All-Conference…finished at 11-11 overall playing at the top of the Eagles’ singles lineup…undefeated in conference play at 3-0…pulled out a three-set (6-4, 3-6, 10-6) upset of NCAA II No. 2 Alex Grubin (Concordia, (N.Y.)) on Mar. 4…topped Hugo Klientovsky 6-3, 6-7, 6-0 to score the clincher against Eastern Kentucky (Mar. 8)…also clinched the Eagles’ win over Webber International with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Rafael Texeira on Mar. 25…was 24-10 in doubles, playing all but one of his dual matches at the top doubles spot…partnered with Adrian Bayh to top second-ranked Xavier Smith and Alex Gonzalez of Fresno Pacific 8-4 in the semis of the NAIA National Tournament (May, 21). Fall 2009: Saw limited singles action due to injury…was 1-1 in the fall…earned a 6-2, 7-6 (8) win over NCAA I Troy’s Aurilien Tave at the Auburn Fall Classic (Nov. 22)... teamed up with Jan Hoekzema for a 6-1 doubles record…the duo bested teammates Zander Woodford-Smith and David Spennare to advance to the ITA Florida Regional title game…suffered a tough three-set loss (7-6 (2), 1-6, 10-7) to teammates Istvan Bolgar and Peter Francis in the ITA regional championship… teamed up with Francis in the latter part of the fall for a 2-1 doubles record, wins against Auburn’s Andreas Mies and Michael Monteiro (8-4) and Troy’s Bastian Maucher and Mario Rolemberg (8-6) at the Auburn Fall Classic (Nov. 20-22).
As A Sophomore in 2008-09: First team All-American…ITA All-America Scholar Athlete…Academic All-Conference…ranked 14th in the final ITA national poll…went 13-7 on the year, including a 10-5 mark in dual match play…played 12 matches at No. 2 singles, finishing with an 8-4 record…had a 2-1 record at the No. 1 spot…posted a perfect 4-0 mark in The Sun Conference to earn All-Conference recognition…topped Miloslav Navratil of No. 3 Lynn 6-1, 6-2 (Apr. 4)…partnered with Carlos Bes Comeras in doubles play and the tandem went wire-to-wire as the top-ranked team in the nation according to the ITA national poll…turned in a 24-4 overall record with 17 wins coming in dual match play…defeated Rafael Array and Tim Johannsen of NCAA II top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic 8-5 (Feb. 20)…also topped Barry’s Max Wimmer and Emanuel Fraitzl when the Bucs were Fall 2008: Compiled a record of 3-2 in singles play...made the semifinals of the ITA/Florida Regional Championships (Oct. 3-5) with wins against St. Thomas’ Fredrico Acevedo (6-1, 6-0) and teammate Luke Maricic (6-4, 6-0)...fell to SCAD’s Jan Menzen 4-6, 6-3, 1-6 in the semifinal round... partnered with Jan Hoekzema for a 7-1 doubles record...the duo blanked Florida Southern’s Ben Taylor and Guenther Fercher 8-0 at the ERAU Open (Sept. 20)...won three matches in a row at the ITA/Florida Regional...claimed the regional title and advanced to the ITA National Small College Championships with a 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 win over the SCAD tandem of Jan Menzen and Chiriacov (Oct. 21)...notched a 6-4, 6-2 win over Oklahoma Baptist’s Bruno Scacalossi and Gustavo Schaefer (Oct. 16) and a 5-7, 6-3, 10-3 win against California Baptist’s Carlos Cirne-Lima and Olive Andrzejczu to earn a spot in the title match...finished second in the tournament after falling to Auburn-Montgomery’s Monte Tucker and Michael Johnson 6-1, 6-3.
As A Freshman in 2007-08: Second team All-America selection...named to the All-Conference team...ranked No. 33 in the final ITA/NAIA national rankings...joined the Eagles in the spring semester...won 15 of his 17 matches...turned in a 12-2 record at the No. 4 spot...went 3-0 at No. 3 singles...opened his ERAU career with a seven-match winning streak from Feb. 1 to Mar. 12...grounded out a 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 6-0 win against DeBruin to score the clincher against Oklahoma Christian (Mar. 19).
Prep: Graduated from Geschwister Scholl Gymnasium in 2007...played for the TC BW Soest club team...team won three consecutive regional championships...two-time regional singles champion...achieved a Top 20 junior ranking in Germany...participate in the national championships where he defeated players ranked in the Top 100 both in Germany and in the International Tennis Federation rankings.
