2021-22: Wrapped up a stellar career as the most decorated student-athlete in ERAU NCAA II history...selected as one of 10 individuals across all NCAA divisions to receive the NCAA Today’s Top 10 Award...Sunshine State Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year...CoSIDA first team Academic All-American...ITA All-American (singles)...ITA/NCAA II Senior Player of the Year...ITA South Region Player of the Year...SSC Co-Conference Player of the Year...named to the All-SSC first team in singles and to the second team in doubles in tandem with Luke Paschal...CoSIDA Academic All-District...Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll...ranked fifth in the final ITA/NCAA II national rankings...finished with a 21-5 overall record in singles, including a 6-1 mark in league play, and was 19-9 in doubles...registered a three-set (4-6, 7-6, 6-4) upset of 12th-ranked Valdosta State (Feb. 18)...teamed up with Andres Donayre for a 6-3 upset of VSU’s second-ranked duo of Rodrigo Carvalho and Luca Mack.
2020-21: CoSIDA Academic All-District…Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll… ITA Scholar-Athlete…named to the SSC All-Conference second team in doubles…ranked 46th in the final ITA/NCAA II singles rankings…posted a 4-5 record in singles, playing all nine matches at the top spot…toppled 11th-ranked Joao Ferreira in straight sets (7-6 (4), 6-3) to lead the Eagles to a win in the third-place match of the SSC Tournament…was 4-3 in doubles play, all at No. 1, going 2-2 in tandem with Andres Donayre and 2-1 in partnership with Luke Paschal.
2019-20: ITA Scholar-Athlete…named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll…recipient of the Eagles’ Outstanding Teammate Award…2020-21 Eagles of Excellence Scholarship recipient…led the Blue and Gold in singles victories with a 16-2 record…played all seven dual matches at the top spot in the Eagle lineup posting a 6-1 record…scored the clinching point against Bentley (Mar. 8) with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Daniel Weltz…teamed up with Andres Donayre for an 18-4 doubles record and a No. 22 ranking in the ITA/NCAA II national poll…the duo was undefeated at 10-0 in dual matches, playing all 10 contests at the No. 1 position…upended Valdosta State’s seventh-ranked duo of Yohan Nguyen and Florian Simbozel 6-3 on Feb. 28.
2018-19 (Redshirt Junior): 2018 ITA/NCAA II South Region doubles champion…named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll…ITA Scholar-Athlete…recipient of a 2018-19 ERAU Eagles of Excellence scholarship…posted a 5-5 singles record before suffering a season-ending injury…teamed up with Andres Donayre to win the 2018 regional doubles crown…Donayre and Ortiz Couder’s partnership yielded a 9-4 record and a perfect 4-0 mark at No. 1 doubles.
2017-18 (Junior): Named to the All-SSC second-team in singles…recipient of the Steve & Vicky Ridder Scholarship...ITA Scholar-Athlete...Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll…tied for a team-best 19 wins in singles…held a 12-9 record at the No. 1 position in singles duals…finished with a 7-4 record in singles tournaments…defeated four nationally ranked opponents…upset Keiser’s fifth-ranked Vicente Lagos 5-7, 7-6, (7-4), 10-4 (March 14)…overcame Azusa Pacific’s fourth-ranked Oliver Frank 7-5, 6-4…tallied a 20-8 doubles record (April 2)…achieved a 15-6 record when teaming with Lucas Bos at the No. 2 position...won a match against Azusa Pacific’s 35-ranked duo Jakob Scnaitter and Tony Pejic (April 2).
2016-17 (Sophomore): ITA All-American…ITA Scholar-Athlete…named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll…closed out his second season with the Eagles ranked No. 12 nationally in singles…turned in a team-best 19-6 singles record, including a 10-3 mark at the top spot in the Eagle lineup…advanced to the round of 16 at the South ITA Regional (Sept. 22-24)…clinched the Eagles’ upset of fifth-ranked Valdosta State with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 defeat of third-ranked Leo Blay (Feb. 17)…bested Rollins’ Patrick Sell 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 tp clinch ERAU’s 5-4 win over No. 28 Rollins (March 22)…also scored the clinching point against Florida Southern (April 10), dispatching Fabian Lundberg 6-1, 6-0…was 13-9 in doubles…went 5-1 in tandem with Andres Donayre.
2015-16 (Freshman): Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection…began competing for the Eagles in the spring…compiled a 12-1 singles record, playing most of his matches at the fifth spot…owned an eight-match winning streak from Jan. 29 to March 22…downed Franco Echenique 6-4, 6-3 to clinch ERAU’s upset of top-ranked Barry on Feb. 27…teamed up with Deni Zmak for a 12-1 record in doubles…the duo was ranked No. 2 in the final ITA/NCAA II doubles poll…Ortiz Couder and Zmak notched wins against fifth-ranked Alex Peyrot and Kenny Brasil of West Florida (March 16) and Saint Leo’s second-ranked pair of A. Barroso-Campos and Alex Theiler (April 19).
Prep: 2014 graduate of the British Council School in Madrid…achieved national ranking of 145…ranked in the top 16 in the junior rankings…advanced to national doubles championship quarterfinals.
Personal: Born in Madrid, Spain…son of Arturo Ortiz Santos and Patricia Couder Sendra…completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Software Engineering at ERAU…pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science…sister Paula was a letterwinner on the ERAU women’s tennis team.
