Biography

Fall 2015: Was 6-4 in singles and 6-2 in doubles in three fall tournaments…recorded a 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Southeastern’s Connor Christian at the ERAU Open (Sept. 18)…went 2-1 in singles at the West Florida Fall Fling (Oct. 16-18)…played alongside Rodolfo Arreygue in doubles…the duo went undefeated in three matches at the ERAU Open.
 
As a Junior in 2014-15: Earned a 14-5 record in singles, which included a 9-4 mark in dual match play…was a perfect 4-0 in Sun Conference matches…capped the season on a five-match winning streak…recorded the clinching point in both Eagle matches against St. Thomas, besting Joshua Rosner 6-2, 6-1 on March 13 and Matias Dasso 6-1, 6-0 on April 17…was third on the team in doubles wins with a 23-6 ledger, teaming up with Rodolfo Arreygue for the majority of the season…the duo was 14-3 playing all be one match at the No. 3 spot…..Fall 2014: Owned a 5-1 fall singles record…defeated Ave Maria’s Rodrigo Torres (6-0, 6-1) and SCAD Savannah’s Sean Hadju (3-6, 6-1, 6-2) to advance to the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA Florida Regional (Sept. 25-28)…partnered with Luke de Caires for a 5-1 doubles mark…downed Torres and Alex Pince (8-1) and edged Hadju and Yiulin Liu (9-8 (2)) in the first two rounds of the ITA regional…suffered a tough three-set (6-7 (4), 6-3, 11-13) loss to regional tournament runners-up Nicolas Guershanik and Alvaro Itiurraga in the regional quarterfinals…Lopez Gomez and de Caires ranked No. 24 in the ITA/NAIA national preseason doubles poll.
 
As A Sophomore in 2013-14: Second team All-Conference…finished third on the team in singles wins with a 21-8 record…was 6-1 in conference play…played the majority of his matches at the No. 5 spot in the lineup where he was 11-6…was 5-0 at the sixth position…closed out the season on a nine-match winning streak…earned the first his two shutouts on the year with a 6-0, 6-0 decision against Ave Maria’s Theodore Pince (April 5)…also recorded a shutout against Adam Albrech of Xavier (La.) on May 15 to send the Eagles to the NAIA national semifinals…compiled a 17-13 doubles record, including a 14-9 mark in tandem with Luke de Caires…Fall 2013: Was 4-2 in singles play…advanced to the ITA regional quarterfinal with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Northwood’s Niktia Borodatov (Sept. 28)…posted a 2-3 doubles record.
 
As A Freshman in 2012-13: Joined the Eagle lineup in the spring…second team All-Conference selection…turned in a 14-4 overall singles record, including a 5-1 mark in Sun Conference play…played the majority of his matches at the No. 5 spot where he was 12-2…bested Adrian Di Felice of NCAA II sixth-ranked Rollins 7-5, 6-4 (Apr. 11)…scored the clincher in the Eagles 9-0 defeat of SCAD Savannah with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Theo Gough (Mar. 2)…posted a 3-3 doubles record in tandem with Anthony Grasso.
 
Prep: Graduated from Colegio Villalkor in June 2012 after playing for Coach Victor Recio…turned in a 25-5 singles record in his final year of high school…helped his high school team to the Champions of Madrid and Runners-up of Spain titles…achieved a No. 210 ranking in the Spanish junior national rankings.
 
Personal: Born in Pedrezuela, Spain on Sept. 28, 1994…son of Jose Fernandez and Concepcion Gomez Ruiz…majoring in Aerospace Engineering.
