Embry-Riddle's Head Women's Basketball Coach Lisa Nuxol-Wilson announced the hiring of Brighton, Mich. native Shannon Murphy as the program's first Assistant Coach in Sept. 2013.

Murphy enjoyed a successful four-year career at NCAA I Florida Gulf Coast University from 2007-11. A three-year team captain, she graduated with 1,185 points and became only the third FGCU women's basketball player to join the program's 1,000-point club. As of the 2012-13 season, she holds the school records for career assists (419) and minutes played (3,581), is second in three-pointers made (219) and third in steals (168).  With Murphy in the lineup, the Eagles posted a 100-25 record, won two conference titles, made four WNIT appearances and set the NCAA single-season record for made three-pointers (350).
 
Murphy was recognized for her accomplishments on the basketball court as well as in the classroom. A four-time first team All-Atlantic Sun selection, she was named the FGCU Athletic Department's Most Outstanding Co-Female Student-Athlete as a senior. She was also named to the Academic All-Conference roster all four season and was the women's basketball representative on the FGCU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
 
During the summer of 2014, Murphy served as the head coach for the American International Sports Teams program. Murphy took her team, which was comprised of high school players from all across the U.S., including California, Texas, New York, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Wyoming, Washington, on a 10-day European Tour. In addition to traveling to Germany and Italy, Murphy and her team competed at the United World Games in Austria and in her first experience as a head coach, Murphy guided her squad to a 4-1 record and third-place tournament finish.

After completing her undergraduate in Marketing with a Minor in Advertising in May 2011, Murphy was named the Vice President of Three Points Hoops, Inc. Her responsibilities with Three Point Hoops included directing Nike Summer Basketball camps around the state of Florida, running USSSA Basketball Tournaments for boys and girls, and private training and player development for boys and girls ranging from age seven to the collegiate level.
