Alison Smalling has served as Embry-Riddle sports information director since 2007 and is in charge of sports information and communication for all 20 of Embry-Riddle's athletic teams and oversees a staff of two full-time Assistant Sports Information Directors and an intern, as well as numerous student photographers, videographers and play-by-play personnel.
Smalling graduated from Embry-Riddle in 1996 with a degree in Aviation Business Administration before earning her Master's degree in Aeronautical Science from ERAU in 1998. The Mandeville, Jamaica native began her sports information career as the Eagles' Assistant Sports Information Director before being named Sports Information Director in 2007.
During Smalling's time at Embry-Riddle, the Sports Information Office has captured 37 NAIA publications awards, including eight Gary Spitler Excellence in Publications honors (six consecutive (2009-14). Smalling has also had several publications honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
In addition to providing coverage for the Eagles, Smalling doubled as The Sun Conference Sports Information Director during ERAU's time in the NAIA, handling the many duties of the conference's SID, including oversight of preseason polls, All-Conference nominating and voting, Athlete of the Week awards and much more.
Smalling's contributions to the sports information profession doesn't stop with Embry-Riddle or The Sun Conference, but extends to the NAIA and NCAA as national organizations. Smalling served up her second year on the NAIA-SIDA board for two years and has served in numerous capacities at national tournaments and championships. Smalling has spent time working at the NCAA Baseball College World Series, NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, Old Spice Classic, NAIA Baseball World Series, NAIA II Men's Basketball Tournament, NAIA Men's Golf Championships, NAIA Women's Golf Championships, NAIA Men's Tennis Championships, NAIA Women's Tennis Championships, NAIA Men's Soccer Championships and NAIA Women's Soccer Championships.
Smalling has served as the host SID for both the NAIA Men's and Women's Soccer National Championships as well as the NAIA Men's and Women's Golf Championships.
Smalling has covered two team national championships in her tenure at Embry-Riddle, including the 2000 NAIA II Men's Basketball title won by the Eagles and the 2013 NAIA Men's Tennis national crown. Additionally, Smalling has had three student-athletes named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans of the Year in Katrina Morgan (2008), Kristina Marova (2014) and Ellie Staker (2015).
