DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Daytona Beach Community College women's golf team shot a tournament-low 302 team total in the final 18 holes to claim the Embry-Riddle University Bash at the Beach event at Daytona Beach Golf Club on the 5,823-yard par-71 South Course Sunday afternoon.
Kayla Shaul and Jessica Trein finished one-two for the champion Falcons, Shaul posted a 10-over-par 36-hole total of 152 earning medalist honors, while Trein earned second-place firing a tournament-low 2-over-par 73 in the final round to finish with a 36-hole total of 153.
First round leader Barry University entered the day with a one-stroke advantage over DBCC and despite improving on their first-round team total by two strokes, were unable to overcome DBCC's strong final round.
Despite her team finishing in eighth overall, Josee Gauthier-Therault had a strong individual effort claiming third-place with a 155.
Host Embry-Riddle dropped to fourth as Northwood overtook the Eagles for third-place with a 315 in the final round. ERU posted a 328 team total. Ormond Beach's Hilary Hurley led the way with her seventh-place finish with a pair of 79s for a 158 total, while Joanie Ewing tied for 11th at 160, Mari Lynn Nado tied for 17th (165), Natalie Garza tied for 21st (166) and Heather Muns finished 28th (172).
