DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - ?The Embry-Riddle University women's volleyball team snapped a two-match losing skid with a 3-0 (30-18, 30-22, 30-20) victory against St. Thomas University (Fla.) in Florida Sun Conference action Friday night.
Janelle Marinos (Three Rivers, Calif.) rebounded from her lowest hittiing performance of the season against Flagler?Tuesday to hit .371 for the match with 14 kills, 18 digs and three total blocks. Sophomore Ashell Curtiss (Libby, Mont.)?added 10 kills and hit .250.
Embry-Riddle (21-9, 7-3 in the FSC) jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first game and cruised to a 30-18 decision.?
St. Thomas (6-14, 3-7) struggled offensively hitting -.027 for the match with 22 kills and 25 errors in 113 attempts. Cynthia Antomarchy (Hialeah, Fla.) paced the Bobcats with 10 kills, while libero Carla Hernandez (Boca Raton, Fla.) led the team defensively with 12 digs.
In the second, Embry-Riddle held a slight 8-7 advantage early, but gained the upperhand midway through the game taking a 14-8 lead.? The Bobcats kept it close trailing just 20-15, but?Embry-Riddle went on a 6-2 run to expand the margin to 26-17.? The teams traded points until the Eagles came out on top 30-22.? Marinos recorded seven of her 14 kills on the night in the second hitting?.583 in the second game.?
The final game was much like the first as the Eagles built a huge 19-9 lead and just put it in cruise control riding out the 30-20 victory.
St. Thomas faces Flagler (17-10 overall and 10-1 in the FSC) in St. Augustine on Saturday at noon, while the Eagles host Florida Memorial (1-15, ?0-9) also at noon.
