Eagle Volleyball Eclipses 2004 Win Total Just Five Matches into 2005 Season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle women's volleyball team has already eclipsed last year's win total just five matches into this year's schedule after sweeping all three matches in the first day of the Sixth Annual Trip Sports Beach Blast at the ICI Center.

The Eagles recorded victories against Baruch (N.Y.) 30-17, 30-18, 30-19; Pikeville (Ky.) 30-20, 30-28, 30-10 and Kentucky Wesleyan 30-14, 30-19, 30-28.

Embry-Riddle won just three matches of their 33 matches last year, but are off to a 4-1 start this season behind four-straight victories.

Junior transfer #Janelle Marinos# (Three Rivers, Calif.) posted the fifth-best single-match kill total with 25 against Pikeville and hit .358 for the match.? She finished the day with 55 kills and 37 digs, while sophomore #Daniela Brazolino# (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) added 29 kills and 37 digs. Freshman setter #Marissa Gonzales# (Littleton, Colo.) recorded 104 assists combined in all three matches and junior libero #Nancy Salb# (Boise, Idaho) recorded 26 digs on the day.??????????????

It marks just the second time the Eagles have won all three opening day games and will look to advance to the title match for the first time in the history of the tournament.? ERAU has secured a spot in the NAIA division semifinals which will be played at 5 p.m. Saturday, but the Blue and Gold finish pool play against Fontbonne (Mo.) at 11 a.m.? The NAIA division championship will be at 7 p.m.
