DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --
Jenn Meglic (Winter Haven, Fla../All Saints' Academy) recorded 12 kills and hit .526 to lead the Embry-Riddle University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory against St. Thomas University (Fla.) (30-17, 30-26, 30-22) Saturday afternoon in Florida Sun Conference action from the ICI Center.
Meglic, who leads the team in both kills per game (2.88) and hitting percentage (.279) on the season, helped ERAU post its fifth-straight match win improving to 6-6 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Aside from Meglic, the Eagles offensive attack was once again balanced with the leadership from setter
Marissa Gonzales who spread her 33 assists to six players.
April Ebanks posted seven kills,
Mia Jaramillo and
Savannah Trakes added six apiece and
Jenni Nelsen finished with five kills.
"I am happy with the results of this weekend and we are steadily improving and coming together as a team, but we need to step it up in practice this week as we head into a very difficult stretch of our schedule next weekend," ERAU head coach
Joslynn Gallop said. "Playing an improved Lynn team and then heading into the challenging Palm Beach Atlantic tournament will be a strong test and could be a defining moment for this year's team."
Defensively, ERAU recorded three block solos and 14 block assists paced by Ebanks (one solo and four assists) and Jaramillo (five solos) with five total blocks apiece, while Meglic added four (one solo and three assists).
Rachel Ridder (Ormond Beach, Fla./Seabreeze HS) led the way with 13 digs and Gonzales added nine digs.
Ashlee Guerrero led the way for St. Thomas (1-4 overall, 1-2 FSC) with 12 kills and added seven digs and two total blocks.
Embry-Riddle is idle until Thursday when they begin a three-day road trip at NCAA Division II Lynn (Fla.) on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. and then travel to the Palm Beach Atlantic University tournament Sept. 22-23.
