Exter has Record-Setting Senior Night Helping Land Home Field for Eagles With 75-53 Victory Over Edward Waters

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Embry-Riddle head coach Steve Ridder's brief speech about the four Eagle seniors included a statement that he knew when 5-10 senior guard Ryan Exter came to ERAU that he would leave setting three-point shooting records in the Blue and Gold basketball annals.  One record that has eluded the Winter Springs, Fla. native during his career with the Eagles is the single-game three-point mark. However, tonight in almost Hollywood-scripted fashion, the senior was almost unstoppable as he matched the single-game mark of nine three-pointers made and finished with 33 points - two shy of his career best with ERAU. Exter now shares that distinction with Kyle Mas who popped for nine on Dec. 29, 1998 against Susquehanna.

Exter's sharpshooting (11-for-18 from the floor, 9-for-14 from three-point land) helped the Eagles post a decisive 75-53 victory against Edward Waters and gave Embry-Riddle (22-8, 7-5 FSC) the No. 4 seed in the Florida Sun Conference tournament and will face EWC (13-15, 6-6 FSC) on Tuesday, Feb. 20th at 7 p.m. in the Lemerand Center. The victor of that game will face No. 1-seeded Northwood which hosts the FSC Tournament Final Four in West Palm Beach, Fla. Saturday, Feb. 24th at 8 p.m. Northwood has a first-round bye, while No. 2 Warner Southern hosts No. 7 Webber International and No. 3 Florida Memorial hosts No. 6 Savannah College of Art and Design on Tuesday in the first round. The winners of the 2/7 and 3/6 games will face each other on Saturday in the other semifinal game at 6 p.m.

Edward Waters appeared as though they were going to record the season sweep against Embry-Riddle jumping out to a 24-10 lead in the first eight minutes of the contest behind four three-pointers including a pair from Jeff Wimbush and one apiece by Lemund Sampson and Trey Bain. Wimbush had eight in the Tiger run, while Bain added five and Bobby Brown had four.

However, Embry-Riddle countered with a 13-2 run sparked a pair of treys by Denver Cobb and Exter's second long-range jumper of the evening to cut the lead to 26-23 with 6:31 remaining before the intermission. Wimbush kept his Tiger teammates together and helped EWC take a 36-34 lead into the locker room at halftime and finished the evening with 17 points, while Brown was the only other EWC player in double-figures with 10.

The Eagles gained the upperhand early in the second half and Exter who finished with 13 first-half points, picked up where he left off with 20 in the second half including 6-for-8 from beyond the three-point arc. ERAU led 51-50 with 12:33 remaining and went on a 9-0 run on layups by Miller and DeBord, then an Exter three-pointer and Denver Cobb jumpshot. EWC cut the lead to single-digits at the 5:13 mark, but were throttled down the stretch with an 11-0 run sparked by the one-two punch from downtown as Cobb hit a three-pointer and Exter hit numbers eight and nine of the night to give ERAU a 73-53 lead with 2:19 to go. The teams got sloppy in the final minutes with a pair of turnovers and four missed shots.

Cobb added 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Miller finished with six points and 11 boards and Drew Whitaker closed out his senior night with eight points and eight rebounds.
