MIAMI, Fla. -- After a last-minute change of venue forced by a severe rainstorm causing a leak in the Robinson Athletic Center roof, the Florida Memorial University men's basketball team adjusted to the new surroundings of the Miami Lakes Educational Center gymnasium and captured the 2007 Florida Sun Conference Tournament Championship against Embry-Riddle University 61-59.
The second half was as close as the two-point victory would indicate as the lead changed 10 time and there were five ties.  The Eagles trailed 60-59 with 1:36 to go after Florida Memorial's All-FSC Freshman of the Year candidate Keith Holmes picked Ryan Ridder's pocket and took it the length of the floor for the easy layup.  After the teams traded missed baskets on their next possessions, FMU's Tramaine Stevens turned the ball over to the Eagles with 23 seconds to go.  ERAU had the ball with an opportunity to take the lead, but Florida Memorial forced a held ball with five seconds to go as Andre Beauford latched onto the ball with Tyler DeBord and the possession arrow was in favor of the Lions.   Daniel Garcia was fouled on the next inbounds play, but only converted 1-of-2 from the line giving the Eagles a chance at the buzzer.  Ryan Exter got a shot off from half court before time expired, but his shot would not fall giving the Lions the title.
Tournament MVP Stevens finished with 27 points and four rebounds to lead FMU, Daniel Garcia added eight points and five boards to join Steven on All-Tourney team along with Andre Thomas and Josiah Perkins.  ERAU's Nick Miller and DeBord were also named to the All-Tournament team.  Miller finished with 18 points and six rebounds, while DeBord posted his third-straight and 12th double-double of the year with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The game was a rematch of the 2006 FSC Tournament finals which saw ERAU come out on top 68-55 in Daytona Beach.
