DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? No. 4 Embry-Riddle started off their four-match homestand with an 8-1 win over No. 16 Shorter on Tuesday. The win puts the Eagles at 10-1 on the year, while the Hawks fall to 2-7.
The Eagles took control of the match from the very beginning, winning all three doubles points. Top-ranked Mislav Hizak and Konstantin Lazarov downed Juliano Cirimbelli and David Araiza 8-4 at No. 1, followed by Carlos Bes Comeras and Sean Winbauer's 8-6 win over Fernando Campos and Danish Ahmad at the second spot. No. 3 doubles was hotly contested with Tomoaki Yasuda and Luke Maricic topping Juan Pablo Vidour and Herique Tomaz 8-5.
The Eagles cruised through the top four singles matches. Hizak and Lazarov kept their dual match unbeaten streaks intact with 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-0 victories over Cirimbelli and Vidour, respectively.
Bes Comeras clinched the win at the third spot with a 6-2 6-1 win against Campos.
A 6-1, 6-0 victory by Yasuda over Vidour, and Maricic's come-from-behind 5-7, 6-2, 10-6 win over Araiza sealed the win.
Shorter's only point came at No. 6 singles as Ahmad bested Michael Weiss 6-4, 6-4.
The Eagles will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow when they host No. 8 Berry at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
