DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team claimed the program's sixth straight Florida Sun Conference crown with a 9-0 win over No.19 Northwood on Saturday. The third-ranked Eagles, who went undefeated in league play at 5-0, improved their overall record to 15-1, while the Seahawks fell to 5-8.
Doubles play saw changes to the Eagles' usual lineup. Carlos Bes Comeras teamed up with Mislav Hizak for the first time this season, and dispatched the Northwood duo of Jeremy Doualot and Kevin Butler at the No. 1 position. Hizak's regular doubles partner Konstantin Lazarov and Tomoaki Yasuda downed Bejamin Lecomte and Jamie Leduc-Deschamps 8-4 at the second spot, and Istvan Bolgar and Luke Maricic wrapped up the Eagles' doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Alex Dunn and Jose Castro at No.3.
The Embry-Riddle men won all six singles matches in straight sets. The fourth, fifth and sixth players for the Eagles dropped a combined three games as Yasuda downed Castro 6-1, 6-0, Bolgar topped Dunn 6-1, 6-1, and Maricic blanked Andy Picon 6-0, 6-0.
Bes Comeras held off Lecomte 7-6 in the first and came back with a 6-1 win in the second, while Lazarov defeated Leduc-Deschamps 6-2, 6-1. Hizak won his first set over Doualot 6-0 and was up 3-0 in the second when Doualot retired.
The Eagles close out the regular season at 3 p.m. on Wednesday when the host Florida Gulf Coast at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
